Anyone else having a problem with vcrs and upconversion to component video on the denon 3803?
the last 3 I installed had issues with the vcr up conversion to component video on the plasmas.
Real squigly picture in and out video...
I found this at another site:
The important "up-conversion" from S-video or composite to component output is actually quite finicky about signal quality. The manual has one confusing sentence warning you that not all video sources will work, and "an external signal stabilizer" might be needed.
It seems to only affect Vcrs, s-video or composite out on the vcr doesnt matter...
Anyhow..a little dissapointing for those who like to use vcrs...

Most VCRs dont output a stable enough signal for the conversion chip to lock onto. This is a pretty common problem with Video Projectors as well.... Especial in a Pause or Slow play mode.
AVToolBox sells a pretty inexpensive Time Base Corrector that fixes this inherant issue with VCR's.
Its about $200.....
The alternative is to use VCRs that have a TBC built in... (Sony SLVR1000, Some high end JVC's) or run the VCR Composit or S-Video if available)
