Sorry to sound daft but I am unclear on where I need to store program info' on computer to then transfer to the controller as I would like to download custom files, do I need to open some sort of program to then upload to the controller?
Would appreciate any guidance please!

The programs you need are located on the Marantz website under "downloads" or on this site in the files section under "Pronto and ProntoPro". There is a FAQ that will answer most of your questions there as well. You will get a lot more help if you post in the "Pronto and RC5000" forum.
