I have a customer who wants to mount a 50" plasma above the fireplace, but he thinks it will be to high to watch normally, so he want a mount that will pull out from the wall and then be able to pull down to a more appealing height. I can picture in my mind what the mount should look like but i don't know if such a beast exists or if someone could build it? I was thinking a dual arm pull out with some type of geared roller on the end which would allow up and down movement. Any thoughts?

Cheif has 2 systems that could be combined to do what I think you're wanting to do... the swing-out arm can be combined with a ceiling lift to lower the screen once it's pulled off the wall...

Is there a mantle in the way that is making it necessary to pull the monitor away from the wall?
We can do it my way, or we can do it my way while I yell. The choice is yours.

Yes there is a mantle below the plasma, the bad part about this whole install is there are 2 bookcases , one on each side which could house the plasma easily but the customer thinks it would lokk "COOL" above the fireplace, hey its only money right?

You could have a look at this site

www.displaydevices.com

They have a new product that was shown at Cedia, but hasn't made its way to the site yet. If I could figure out how to drop a picture in a message I would show you, drop me an email if you want I have a PDF of their new products.

The industry wide solution to "too high to watch" is a tilting mount. You can get an articulating mount that tilts also for probably 1/10th the cost of buying a custom mount/lift combo. If he is willing to spend the money then it's worth it to him, but it's your responsibility as the consultant/teacher to advise him of alternatives.
