... but I want to find out if anyone has installed one before, and have had any problems with it..

I installed an Onkyo DV SP-800 universal DVD/SACD player for a customer in July... the damned thing never worked right, so I tried to return it... The wholesaler said it had minute scratches on it, and refused to take it back, so i sent it in for repairs.

The first place I took it to couldn't find anything wrong with it, but apparently they didn't have the equipment to really test the thing... They kept it for 6 weeks.

What's wrong with the unit is, when you play a DVD-A, it's perfect... When you play a SACD, it has scratching noises on the center channel- that's if it can figure out you have a SACD in it! It even has scratching on the center channel on a 2 channel SACD...

So, I dropped it off at another repair place, and after replacing hald the interior components, they have had to order an entire circuit board from Japan! It's been in their office for 2 months now....

I decided I don't want to try to install this lemon of a DVD player again, and I want my money back... The trouble is, the distributor here is a real asshole. It's looking like I have to eat $1000 because of this junk unit.

I have a question...

has anyone else installed one of these units, and has anyone had any problems with it?

We can do it my way, or we can do it my way while I yell. The choice is yours.

No, but I'd patiently but insistantly go beyond the distributor, and contact Onkyo directly. There's no reason beyond laziness that your distributor is being asenine.

I tried that. Onkyo told me I had to deal with the distributor.

The repair shop is going to give me the name of the guy they go through at Onkyo. Maybe he can help me out... (I'm guessing that service and sales have two different pipelines at Onkyo, which can be a Good Thing)

Continue working with your repairman on getting in touch with Onkyo. He/she probably has an established relationship with someone at Onkyo and that can make all the difference. He/she may even feel your pain and junk the unit for you out of sympathy. Never know it could happen.

Ahl,
I'm a dealer for Integra and warranty servicer for Onkyo and Integra, so if you need contact numbers, let me know. They are a very good customer and installer support company.

There is no truth anymore. Only assertions. The internet world has no interest in truth, only vindication for preconceived assumptions.

The repair shop is going to go through their channels and get me another unit or a refund...

When the Onkyo people told them a part won't be here for another month, and that it may not cure the problem, I had the unit declared DOA... I'll know more on Monday
