I just installed an Integra DTR 6.4 in a bedroom system with a xantech keypad in the master bathroom to control the zone 2 output, easy enough right??? Well the stinkin receiver has on,off and input controls but no seperate ir codes for volume. I spoke to a girl @ integra and she told me they were not available, oh Joy!!! Has anybody found zone 2 volume up and down codes that willl work for this application? If not i will either have to switch to a different receiver or put a volume control in. Any Thoughts?

That's odd. I haven't yet come across an Integra receiver that had no VC codes for zone 2.

As long as the IR in position is set to zone 2, the same codes that work the main zone should control only the second. You do have the KP jacked into the back, right? Or are you using a flasher on the front?

Hello avintegrator I can help you, I'm an Integra Dealer and these are about the only home theater receivers I work with. Do you know the person's name that you talked to at Integra? I normally get very knoledgable Integra people on the phone so I dont know who you talked to. But anyway, your descrete volume commands for zone 2 are the LEVEL UP and DOWN buttons on the receiver remote, its just under the navigation cursor, i believe you have to hit zone2 button, and then level up or down. No mute though, sorry.

Hope that helps.

P.S. Did you know that they just added direct radio station tuning to the 5.4 and 6.4? The codes aren't published though, I don't know if you'll find them in a file on remote central yet, otherwise you can get them from Integra's support site.

Thanks for the feedback, deb1919 i am using the front panel ir due to a fact i left out, i am using a marantz rc9200 also to control both zones and just sending one ir feed with discreet codes seemed to be the better way to go, so therefore i couldn't take advantage of the great backdoor interface.
And to BimmermanM3 no i didn't know abot the level buttons on the remote but i'll give it a shot on my 6.4 @ home before treking back to the customers house
Thanks again

Using the IR port on the back is still a better way to go. Through this jack, the same codes that control zone 1 will discretely control zone 2, so there's no need for a second codeset (or screen on the remote, for that matter). Just carry it into the other room & it becomes a zone 2 remote.

The jack is Xantech compatable, so there's no need to strip the carrier.

Deb, that would be a better way to go, unless his equipment in the main zone is hidden away and he is also using an IR repeater system to control the main zone. Then it is easier to set up one IR system and just use descrete zone2 commands.

edit: Oh I almost forgot, either way you dont need the flasher on the front, there is an IR input on the back, you can select it to be either MAIN or ZONE2 IR input in the menu. If you are using one IR system like previously stated, just go into the IR on the back, set it to MAIN in the menu(MAIN is the default by the way) and it will work just like your emitter on the front, except for the fact that you dont have to worry about the cleaning lady or someone else knocking the emmiter off the front and having to make a service call to fix it. :-)

Oh yeah avintegrator one other thing, you may have problems using your marantz to control the volume in the second zone. The problem is that you need a macro for the volume up or down, you need to hit zone2, and then the level up or down button. if you put this macro into the remote, you wont be able to press the volume and hold it, more then likely it will just go up one step, and you will have to keep pressing the volume button on the remote to keep raising the volume. The way I have gotten around this is with the Sonance keypads I use, the keypad software allows you to enter in a macro and then tell it what command to repeat when the button is held in, so it sends the zone2 command, and then keeps repeating the volume up or down command until you let go of the button. I haven't seen a feature like this in Marantz touch screen setup or pronto edit, so I'm not sure how you could work around that with your system, maybe you could have 2 volume controls on the remote, one that has one volume up or down command for small adjustments, and another that has 3 or 4 volume commands in it for large adjustments, that way if they wanted to make a large adjustment, they would only have to hit the volume a couple of times, instead of tapping the volume button 20 times to turn the volume up :) That might also clutter your remote and be confusing for the coustomer though.

I hope that made sense.

You're right.

Although it would only add the price of a wall wart & an emitter to make the remote room's eye a standalone repeater, there's still the issue of flashing the source equipment (unless it's also Integra). A Xantech ZC21 2-zone block would do nicely.

I suppose I would rather go all out on the repeater to control zone 2 directly than from the front sensor. Not having to deal with that pesky 5-second window just feels better to me.

You were correct with this, adding a 2 zone connecting block and flashering the front of the unit and going in the back for zone 2 worked. I just wish they had added a couple of more discreet commands since they went to the trouble of giving on off and inputs whats the big deal in 3 more commands (vol up, down, mute)maybe i just ask for to much?? It's like when Marantz had TV's which i have a 60", here they are touting the RC5000 and simple control of everything you own but on their own tv's you had to create a macro, a very long macro, to change inputs. It works but it a pain!

Sorry to change the subject, just my 2cents

The Marantz and Philips remotes have that feature as well. All you have to do is when learning the volume button into the remote, make sure that you hold the volume button that you are programing down, this way the remote will learn a repeating command and will give you a continuous volume up or down while holding down the vol button
