The only real difference is the type of battery. The majority of the household batteries in the US are made by either Duracell or Energizer.

I don't know if that is true or not. But between the two, Duracell wins hands down.

I used to have a company that built a product that we pre-shipped with four AA cells pre-installed. We started with Energizer batteries and rather frequently, find one out of the four-pack to be completely dead.

Then we set up a deal with Duracell and to our pleasant surprise, never had a single dead battery. And we are talking about thousands of batteries here.

So while I don't know which one lasts longer (Consumer Reports did tests of them so look that up), reliability is definitely higher with Duracell.

BTW, the wholesale cost of each battery to us was $0.24 each so a four pack that sold for >$3 at the time, cost us under $1.00! Talk about margin!!!

Are you talking the life of the battery with multiple recharges or the length of a single charge?

My primary experience on this was with a set of the (dreaded Monster brand), and they would last 9-12months on a single charge with moderate to heavy remote usage.

And regarding quality of batteries, there have been multiple "reports/shows" that have done research and testing...most results are that duracell and Energizer batteries greatly out perform the mass market and off brands. Duracell being the hands down king on the majority of reports I've seen...and in practice too, out last everything else on a comparable basis (ie regular or ultra vs other regular or extended life batteries).

Lithium's do tend to last longer, but due to drop off they usually are not cost effective versus their extended life in remotes (digital camera's are a different animal because the power required to use the lcd screen, flash, and ccd chips is much higher).

Use the lithium versions Tom. You can get them at Sam's CLub.
I may be schizophrenic, but at least I have each other.

It's the lithium Energizer that gave me the poor results that spawned this thread!!

Tom, have you considered rigging your own power supply and bypassing batteries all together (that is if it is always docked)...would be easy enough, just calculate voltage and amperage that is needed and find a PS that matches and wire it up...(remotely I would suggest/assume)...I had suggested that to URC a while back, like when it first was released...
What part of "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed." do you not understand?

The Maxell Batteries do seem to work really well. A local retail AV sells them for something like $1.50 a 4 pack. They last forever.

Also if you have a Kroger Grocery store nearby go pickup some of the Kroger Branded batteries. They also perform exceptionally well.

really? ill have to try them...
hey! it works!

Ah, you know, it is used as a carry around control all the time. Else that's a great plan.
