I would like to use my Pioneer SD-582HD5 TV as a computer monitor. I notice the there is an RGB input in the rear of the TV. However the instructions say that the RGB input jack is designed for use in connecting a digital tuner with RGB signal output and it should accordingly never be connected to a PC. Is there anything that can be done (eg adapter, modification etc) that would allow a PC to be connectec to the RGB input. What is the best way to use this TV as a computer monitor. We would like to watch family pictures and films on the big screen TV.

Any comments/suggestions would be appreciated.

You might give Pioneer tech support a call. If your PC has a video output you could try that or get a video card with video out and hook it up with Svideo or composite video. BTW, do you mean RGB(HV) or RGB-component video?

You can also try the Key Digital (www.keydigital.com). The KD-VTCA2 converts the VGA out of your computer to a Y,Pr,Pb signal for your TV set. There is also a VGA Loop through connector.

There are some dipswitch settings you might have to experiment with.

The device does work fairly well however.

According to the manual, the RGB input jack at the back of the TV has inputs for 5 signals: -R, G, B, H and V-. The input format in which images can be received is as follows:
Format: 1080i
Horizontal frequency: 33.75 kHz
Vertical frequency: 60 Hz.

The actual RGB input jack on the TV looks like the monitor output on a PC.

Would the KD-VTCA2 work with this? Is this the best way to do this? Other methods?

Thanks

The only thing that a computer really looks good on is a computer monitor, or plasma TV, I have tried just about every combination there is, so do not be surprised if it does not turn out all that great. The picture is still watchable and maybe it won’t bother you. So good Luck

You would probably get some good ideas if you asked this question at the AVS forum: www.avsforum.com

If you search the forums, you'll probably find someone has already asked and been answered your question.
