I have to remove a Niles MS210 from a display because IT DOESN'T WORK WITH NEW DTV RECEIVERS!

It leaves the gooey residue.

How can I remove the stuff without damaging the plastic/finish?

I use rubbing alcohol. I carry a box of the little first aid wipes with me for getting electrical tape goo and emitter stickies off.

You dont even have to rub hard. Just dab it and the glue will break down pretty quick.

Be careful of painted surfaces. Sometimes the paint can come off.

Also.. be careful rubbing any of the highgloss plastic TV bezels. That stuff is a magnet for polishing scratches. I usually just dab the alcohol wipe and wait a few seconds then i wipe in one direction (left to right no circular pattern) to remove it.

The only time i have had an issue with paint actually coming off was with an old sony tube TV. the silver paint just smeared right off (of a TV i was supposed to return). Theres zero issues with using it on non painted surfaces.

I dont have any experience with goo-off or any products like that. The tech that trained me told me to use rubbing alcohol and i have ever since.

One thing you can do is test whatever product your going to try on an unseen spot on the display (like the back) to see what happens.

don't use that stuff on your job sites. not only will it strip the finish but it is dangerous too.

The label adds, 'WARNING: This product contains a chemical known to the state of California to cause birth defects or other reproductive harm.'

Actually, the warning label lists two chemicals that have been associated with birth defects, toluene and xylene. Both substances can cause kidney and liver damage. Both can be absorbed through the skin as well as by breathing the vapor"

I hope you haven't been breathing too much of it already? ;)

I would be careful on the goof off. That shite will take it all off. Like prom night.

Goo Gone works well - it's citrus based. I've never seen it damage a product's finish, but after the "goo" is removed you will have to clean the oil residue with a mild soap or detergent...

Don't use "GOOf Off"

I found a small yellow steel can of it at Home Depot looking for Goo Gone and it's way too strong. It actually melts plastics and instantly strips colors and coatings.

I use ACETONE.

I used Goof Off on a shiny plastic bezel of a 60 inch Sharp --- it dulled the finish!

cleans strip brand "paint cleanup" It takes off the goo and does not hurt the finish. Available at the Depot or Slowe's.

I've seen acetone kill plastics too.
