Yes, I use a Keyspan with WIn XP Pro with no problems on my Desktop.
I would suggest a Dell 8500 series Laptop... I just got one and its awesome.

I've been using a Belkin USB -> DB9 connector to interface to a wide variety of devices on a Eurocom Laptop (OEM pc supplier to Alienware, gaming PCs).

The Keyspan USA-19QW works perfect for old gen. pronto's. And the guy who told me about it is a AMX programmer, so I'm sure it works for them too. Chris

The Keyspan above will also do Marantz, Crestron, Home Theater Master and Panasonic phone systems on a Toshiba or Dell laptop running Windows XP Home or Professional

You can use all laptap with a card port to program.Use a card from www.quatech.com part#ssp-100 I program all kind of remotes. When you get it you need to set it up as COM PORT 1 Kevin Naedler

I have a Dell Laptop without a serial connection so I purchased their replicator. I have tried using it and the USB ports work fine on it with a mouse but I cannot get the serial connection to upload / download with the pronto. The computer is assigning the serial connection to COM4 becasue it says the first three are busy. Any suggestions ?

If you are using any peripherals with your laptop they may be using Com 1. Pronto Edit only works with Com 1. Tonto will work with Com 4 or you will have to change the Com 1 assignment in your laptop.

You need ro reassign whatever is using COM 1 to COM 4 or higher and then remap you COM4 to COM1. XP Pro allows this flexibily quite easily.... I've been told its not as easy on XP Home, but can be done
