I would love to know if anyone has got any good ideas on the best positions for the front speakers in a home cinema system.

The system has a plasma screen which is located to the right of a fireplace.

When the client wishes to watch the screen it pivots about 45 degrees out from the wall so the right hand side of the plasma is away from the corner of the room (Am I making sense).

What I need to know is where the best position for the speakers (especially the centre) would be, the only real option I came up with was all 3 front speakers located in the ceiling in line with / above the plasma when it is pivoted out.

Any better ideas?

If the speakers are light enough, you could attach them directly to the top and sides of the plasma's bracket. Otherwise, the usual places: center over the TV and the mains as symmetrical and equidistant as possible.

Corner placement generally sucks. My sister had me place her speakers in the normal places: front-wall center, left, and right, and rear-wall left and right, and then has her TV in the corner, to the left of the left speaker! Egad!

Any way you could put the plasma above the fireplace?

We had this problem last week, just an idea mount the center to the plasma (under fabricate mount under plasma). Then do some sort of invisible system Ex. niles, or any inwall speaker you can pivot on anangle in the ceiling. IN MY OPINION DO NOT PUT CENTER CHANNEL IN THE CEILING. Good Luck.

There are a number of flat speakers (4 inches depth or less) that you can attach (Make your own mount. That's why the call it custom) Boston Bravos sound decent and come in black or white. B&W also has some plasma application speakers as well. I know there are plenty of alternative. Placing the speaker in the ceiling will draw the dialogue away from the screen. I've seen it happen before.

Thanks for the suggestions,

Not sure what the plasma would look like with speakers attached to the bracket,
If I was to go down this route I would probably use something like the M&K Xenon LCR35s to keep it discreet with either the left/right on the plasma bracket or on the wall.

Although I do understand about the centre channel pulling the dialogue away from the monitor (I never could get this too work even with the Speakercraft AIM speakers).

However in-ceiling might still be the best option for aesthetic appeal.

Does anyone have experience with the Sonance Elipse range of in-ceiling speakers.

My 1.5 cents worth.... I agree with the Boston Bravos, can mount them to the plasma and they make for better placement options. Also, if you can wait, Boston is has the best sounding ceiling speakers I've heard coming out soon (They told me early fall..). Have only been involved in one Sonance Elipse installation...yuck! Voices from the ceiling is hard to get used to. Good Luck!!

Hello all,

new to the forum, thanx for the outlet. I'm sure you'll be hearing/seeing more from me.

you should check out a new line of speakers from a company named artison, started by the creator of infinity. They are designed to attach directly to the plasma and contain l, r, and center (in a dual mono configuration), which works exrtremely well. the only drawback is if they make a mount for your plasma. the bracket should be easy to recreate though. by the way the speakers are the same for 42,50,60" plasmas only the matching grillls change size and they make a matching set of rears & sub.

oh yeah, they sound pretty good - designed as an "audiophile" product, about 1500 for a pair (L,C,R)

These actually sound quite interesting.

Do Artison have a web site?

the sonance elipse speakers suck. as for corner installs your really up against it. I've been sucessful twice in construction phase to get the client to move the fireplace to the corner, and save the middle for the video. these were both gas fireplaces. In couple of situations i have a trim guy build me a rectangler box length of the tv. then i go under tv, fill box with 3 cube type speakers then grill cloth front. I've got a really good trim guy on retainer. he's able to match just about every decora we've run into. good luck. corner mounts are terrible.

Another option would be to use infinity's modulus system. It's a 5.1 satellite speaker setup with a sub. For satellites it actually sounds pretty impressive, in my opinion better then boston's bravos although those are pretty decent. They also sell a bracket that attaches to the top of a tv to hold the left, right and center speakers. I have used this to attach the system to a plasma, it's a little tricky but it can work.

B&W LM series speakers would work well too if you choose to mount to the plasma.

Also, does your plasma have a center channel input? If so you could use that and then only need to place a left and right in the wall or too the plasma.
