George... Did you read my response? Grafik-Ra (No mater how you spell it) is NOT part of Homeworks... it IS part of Radio-Ra.. Models RA-GRX-X-X are Designed to be used as part of a Radio-Ra system. There is ALSO a RA-GRXI-XX thats is a Grafix-Eye Adaptor for the RA system, it lets you incorprate a standard Grafik-Eye into your Radio-Ra system. Standard Grafik-Eye products can be used with a Homeworks system, but technically arent designed as a primary control for the system.

Homeworks is a Pre-Construction Home run lighing system. All Loads are handled in a Central Panel (OR several Sub Panels depending on system size.....)

And Yes, before someone brings it up, Vareo will also work with Homeowrks, but then we're getting WAY off subject.

I am not trying to integrate into Homeworks. Lutron told me that an RS 232 Interface will activate the "fade" feature on my RA system. Did you read what "jwalkup" & "shoe" wrote?
I have no interest in Homeworks.
Thanks,
George

The switches you have are nothing like the homeworks
switches.

Lutron produces a "Graphic Ra" which will fade
the way you describe. Smalleset is a 2 load 2
gang unit. It has 16 presets that can be set
to fade/ramp instantly to 10 seconds to scene.

You CAN accomplish this through a RS-232 interface,
It would be one hell of a programming feat, but
it could be done.

You CAN accomplish this with a IR interface as
well, but you would have top use multiple scenes
in a row in order to ramp them slowly to zero.

I generally use Graphic product in Home theaters
where fading to zero is a nice effect, cant really
see the value for general use of the lighting
system.

Basically, it can be done, but it falls into the
realm of "Should" it be done.....

I cant put it in any more plainer (is that a word?) Terms.......

If you want a true Fade feature, you should think about swapping out some of your switches with Grafik-Ra's

Can you do it with the RS-232 Interface...............

YES, but its going to have to be coded from scratch and a front end is going to have to be built for whatever you want to control your fading from.

I know of no pre-coded Windows interface, and the feature is not written for Crestron or AMX....

Thus, a high end Pronto controller would NOT work?

The Pronto should work. As Shoe mentioned, you'll need the RA-RS232 interface, a Xantech IRS232, an IR receiver, and RC68 programmer.

You may be able to find a ccf with the Xantech codes, so you don't have to buy the RC68. There are also other brands of IR-to-RS232 converters -- Celadon is one, that's received good reviews.

The RadioRA serial protocol is available on Lutron's website, and describes the command strings. There are two functions which should work for you:

1. Raise or lower the level of all dimmers assigned to a button (scene).

2. Ramp a dimmer to a specific level, over a period of 0 to 240 seconds.
