Hi,

Today AAS-4 Media Server can't finish load (STANDBY flashing Red/Green), HDD makes clicks. As I'm IT I tried connect it to PC but it make horrible noises/clicks so you can tell is broken, no changes to read it.
HDD needs replace is 250 GB IDE (PATA) Seagate.
I've got new HDD, but AAS won't load (not surprised).
Where I can get load software to it or how should be formatted.
In short words how to initialize it?

Thanks for help

Jack

IIRC the Crestron AAS runs on a modified Xiva (iMerge) platform, but that is not very helpful, there aren't any resources to help fix one of those yourself either. The unit will likely need to be returned to Crestron for service.

start by going to the highest point of the home where you have access to a window that opens. I would then throw the aas out the window, you may want to open it first, and then jump out the window after it. It would be best if you landed on top of the unit so it may cushion your fall. Other then that I dont know of any use for that pos.

That unit is the same that Elan uses (almost 100% positive) - their 1st generation had a lot of problems with the hard drive, but Elan has a series II with better hard drive and embedded OS.

Any chance Crestron also has a newer series and possibly an upgrade option? Gonna cost some $$ I'm sure.

Sorry you guys have had trouble with these. Imaging the HD before failure seems like a good move to make. That'll be something to do over the weekend.

Is it possible to image a known working AAS to get him going.. then he would just have to manually reload the CD's.

I'll try to use another AAS to make 'ghost' of the HDD.
Anyone knows is this important how many heads and plates HDD should have, as I read somewhere that is important.
I read somewhere there are 18 Linux partitions on HDD, make resizing impossible - to stop people changing small HDD to bigger.

Thanks,

Jack

This was a question, not a statement.

There are hard drive copiers that you can purchase that make bit for bit copies, no matter the OS. I used one of these to upgrade some hard drives on the SCSI drives in some Arrakis CD servers.
