I was wondering if anyone ran into a problem with Niles IRP2+ repeater systems acting funny. The system is about a year old. The customer has a Sony 36" hi-scan TV that the sensor is located next to(in the upper left corner.) The problem is that when you try to control his Onkyo receiver, it doesn't flash the receiver. The sensor flashes, and the IRP2+ flashes, but the receiver volume is very erratic and only works well if you get close to the sensor. I've tried rewiring the flasher system- to no avail. I also tried wiring the flashers on the variable block. I've tried so many different things-from batteries to other remotes- same problem. It did function properly in the past. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

How about whether the TV is on or off? If it only works consistently when the TV is off, it may be that you've got interference from the TV. Does it do it with the Onkyo remote, or are you using a universal remote? If universal, how does the Onkyo remote operate?

I tried both the TV on and off- same result. I tried the Onkyo remote and a One-for-All remote- also the same result.

Another thing to check would be if the flasher is overloading the pickup in the receiver. Not a frequent problem by any means, but occasionally happens and can make things erratic. If you are using the variable port, try turning the flasher output down a little. If not, back the flasher up an inch or so away from the receiver and see if it helps.

Worth checking if nothing else works for you.

Thanks, but already tried fooling with the flasher levels and with placement. This problem is driving me crazy. I did work very well at one time.

Did you Try a New Flasher and/Or a New IPR2+?

And while we're on that sbject.. Are they Niles emmitters?

Check the power supply. With IR it could be anything.

Have you have tried a new emitter or using the output on th IRP-6 that controls something else properly. If you have then I would stop looking at the IR system and start looking at why the Onkyo isn't recieving the IR properly.

Thanks. I have tried most of these things. There are 2 flashers on the system now. Both are not functioning. As for trying a new IRP2+, I am realizing that as well. But why does it work sometimes? (And all of the time when close to the sensor?) I am quickly coming to the conclusion that someone tampered with this system in some respect. To have it working and all of the sudden not work right is something I have not dealt with that much(as far as flasher systems are concerned.) Usually it is something that is resolved easily. This one is a kicker.

I'm thinking the problem may be with the IRP2+ or the power supply. I have installed many of these, with many different components, and not had this problem. This doesn't mean it can't happen, as I have had unfavorable results with Audioplex's Plasma Proof system. Anyway, I'm thinking that if the IR works with the remote close to the sensor, that would explain a weak power supply or defective IRP2+. If possible, I would exchange the entire system (sensor, flashers, and IRP2+) and see if the problem is resolved. It seems as though you've exhausted all other options.
