I have searched and gotten a few different answers .

Can I use an ir output from a RP-6 and hook it up to the IR in on the back of a Speakercraft MZC-66 zone input(Keypad) and control it with the discrete codes that are in the master RTI data base?

One step further.....

If the above questions answer is yes, can I also keep the keypad that is connected there hooked up as well. It is the MKP-1.1 by Speakercraft keypads being used.

I am going to try and simplify a system for a client that a another company did. Thus I am not to familiar with speakercraft. I would like to use a single input and control all the zones with discretes, but I don’t see anywhere to input that. I figure I can have a ir come from the RP-6 for each zone I want to control.

Thanks in advance.
Don't read my answer. Someone else will go into great detail as to why I am wrong rather than answer the original question...

Yes,

You can control any SpeakerCraft zone by IR from any of the IR connections on the keypad bus. Each zone has discrete codes. The MKP will still work as well. You can connect to each zone or just one and control any zone from another by IR.

I have done a lot of RTI remotes with SpeakerCraft including the RP-6. Let me know if you have any more questions. Be careful with those library codes. I have found some codes to be in error. Make sure your MZC firmware is up to date and you are using the default system code.

Yes, and yes. ;-)

Question is, are the codes in the RTI database correct? That you will have to find out. It's easy enough to control the MZC though through and outside controller. Contact me if you need the IR codes and I will email them to you.
Why all the fighting and cussing? Can't Dave play nice? We're just here to learn and have fun. It was a harmless jab, laugh and get over it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think you would be better off just learning the codes from the MZC and skipping the library. The way the MZC creates IR codes varies between firmware versions, so it's a pain to load it up and find out that only 1/3 of them work.

Since you haven't spent much time with the MZC, take time to read the manual before programming. Once you understand how it works, it's easy to use and program but if you treat it like a dumb AV receiver it can be painful to program for 3rd party remotes.

Thank you all for the replies.
If any of you would like to sent me your codes, I would be even more thankful.

I do beleive the is a special cable needed for the programming of the MZC, correct?
Where do I get the software for it?

Is it the same as the old prontos(TSU 6000's)

When merging two control sources into one MZC bus, it is a good idea to use diodes on the signal lead coming from each device to limit conflict problems

I connected a URC MX900 to a MZC66 today via a MRF350. Just connected a wire from a 1/8 jack on the MRF to the IR and GROUND terminals on one of the zones. Then, from the MZC editor software, right clicked on each button I needed to use on the MX900, and selected the last option, which is to copy the code to the clipboard in hex format. Then I opened up the mx900 editor, and pasted the hex data into the Universal Browsers Hex Editor and dragged the code up to my desired button. No learning was required and each code worked flawlessly.

This customer wanted to use the speakers in that zone for his tv, and shut off his tv speakers. So when he presses cable on his remote, it powers on the tv and cable box, and then sends the code to turn the zone on to the cable input. The volume is set for up and down on that zone, plus a mute, which is all punched through to each source. When the client hits the off button on his remote, it powers off the tv and cable, and shuts off that zone. Works great

haven't worked with RTI, but I am sure it has a way to import hex codes. Worked great for me. If you haven't already resolved all this, good luck.

Hi, I could use the IR codes for the Speakercraft MZC if you still have them handy.

They should be in RTIs database by now. Did you check there?

Every time you do a firmware update to an MZC, those codes are rewritten, at least they used to be. Simply export the hex code for each button, and import into whatever control system you are using.
