Cable and Satellite boxes suck because they're built by the lowest bidder and the consumer doesn't want to pay for a box that has little or no perceived value. The cable and satellite companies will take a loss on the box to get the customer to subscribe to the programming. Cable and Satellite companies don't make money on the boxes, they lose money. One of the local cable companies, loses over $100.00 per HD PVR even with the customer paying several hundred dollars.

The lowest bidding process creates HD PVR boxes that consume as much as 500w. That's one nasty light bulb.

Thinking green, I wonder how much power would be saved if the companies started developing efficient and controllable cable and satellite boxes.
Logic is a systematic method of coming to the wrong conclusion with confidence.

That french box is the ugliest piece of crap I have ever seen. It looks like a PC tower from '86.

The new AT&T boxes are nice. Decent GUI. U-Bar.
