Roddy - Those racks look great, did you have connections between the Two?
Are they connected have to come out together or can they be separated? Which way do you suggest to do it?

In both environments they are separate and our next one will be the same...

AS for the GXR2's. I am trying to go for as smooth and
clean of finish as possible, but have never used custom
face plates. So to make everything look the same do I
need to get custom plates for everything?

Use the rack ears for anything that has rack ears. and use the custom faceplate for everything else.

What about for things like the GXR2's that have rack ears but aren't proper height. They are 5.75 inches tall with feet, so maybe they are only 5.25 without feet which would be 3 spaces and would be great.

You will need to put a space between the GXR's

When you have 2 slide out racks and you have connections that go from 1 rack to the next you have to run the cables down the 1st rack, across the cable management tray to the back wall then over to get behind the 2nd rack, across its cable management tray and up the 2nd rack.

This is the only way to do it or you will end up looking like the 3 stooges trying to get both racks to roll out at the same time.

I like the use of the decora VCs and controller in the rack. We are starting to do more of this with baluns and basic controllers.

I also like the idea of docking a remote and an FP1 in a 4 space media holder (for the right room).

I like the Media Holder idea. I thought the MA shelf for the ipod dock looked a little boring with all that extra space. Using the Media Shelf solves that problem.

Do you use the AXS racks, or would you suggest a different model?

We use Middle Atlantic for everything. I dont like racks that move and hate ones that spin but if you have to have it roll out, the AXS racks are great IMO.

I think the Media Shelf as well, but the GXR2 system using the 30 pin Cable and So I need to use the Niles Dock.

Any thoughts on the price? $3500 seems a little high to me.

Do you use the custom faceplate and a basic shelf?
What are the custom faceplates, like A$*D Part MIDAFACE820?

Or do you suggest to use the RSH4A?

What is the differences?

"Is this normal for a custom rack to be this expensive?"

Isn't this pretty self-explanatory?

Custom=more $.

The hot pieces go close to the top so they don't heat up the other equipment. Next, place the pieces that need to be accessed directly. All others that won't be touched go to the bottom. Any odd sized pieces need filler panels, preferably vented.
My mechanic told me, "I couldn't repair your brakes, so I made your horn louder."

I realize this, but I was under the impression that a full size custom rack would be closer to $2500

up the other equipment.

I understood that the hot pieces (usually the heavy ones) should go on bottom to create a natural draft from bottom to top.

Can anyone else chime in on this concept. Hot at bottom or top?
