I have the Kenwood VR4900 receiver with the powertouch remote.
1) The remote control signal received by the receiver is ONLY the RF signal.
2.) the powertouch has the RF remote function in addition to the IR remote function.

If I need to use any other remote (e.g. Denon 8000 LCD remote), than I need to have a IR receiver (Xantech 291-80,480-30,490-30)

I can connect the IR receiver's output cable to the Receiver's IR RECEIVER IN jack, and this jack supports a 12V 20ma signal.

MY question,
1. can I use other IR receiver? Xantech is little expensive.

2. If I use the Xantech, will I need the seperate power supply of 12v to run the Xantech?,

Any other suggestion.

Again , the Kenwood ONLY rec'd RF signal unless have a IR receiver.

Regards

Tom

Are there other IR sensors less expensive than the Xantech, that will give you an output you can use to run several LEDs? I just buy Xantech because it is so good. The cost of researching the cheapest one for one application is greater to me than the cost of just using what works.

Yes, you will need the Xantech power supply. It needs a REGULATED 12 volts, not a 12 volt plug-in power supply. In fact, if you want to go cheapo, get an unregulated NINE volt power supply -- it's what Xantech used to sell as their cheaper supply. There was a failure rate of one to five percent per year, which was unacceptable to installers, so they quit offering that. If you are ready to replace it if needed to save a few bucks now, that will work.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

A $100 IR System is too expensive to go with a $2000 Surround receiver?

Will you be using the 8000 RF? If so, its likey that youcan run the Emmitter Output of the Denon base directly into the Kenwood as well

I am going to use the Denon 8000 with base, the back of the Denon base have emitter out and wired out, and my receiver have the jack for RF remote antenna.,a jack for IR receiver IN( with DC12v-20ma), can I just connect the base (emitter out) DIRECTLY to the IR receiver IN??

Is the IR receiver in with the 12V means this jack will OUTPUT 12v, if yes, would the 12V affect the Denon base?( it alreadt have a 12V input)

I'm not familiar with the Kenwood's ports on the back.. The idea that a IR In Jack would provide 12V seems kinda Strange.... You might need to make a custom cable that does NOT pass the 12V back to the Denons base. Thry to find a Pin Conficuration for the VR4900... the IR in jack may be a 3 or 4 position minijack.

fr the manual it reads:

IR receiver in terminal

Max output current...........20ma
Operating Voltage............12V
Output Impendance............470ohms

Shape of plug to be connected:

stereo min plug

Ir receiver in
to tip--------signal
to ring--------ground
to sleeve--------+12v

I just spoke to the Xantech Rep.(tech department), confirmed that I don't need the seperate power supply because the kenwood IR receiver in jack will provide the 12V, MY LAST QUESTION:

Can I still connect the DENON base ( with emitter out and wired out jacks), to the IR receiver in jack directly. I just afraid if I connect this the 12V fr the Kenwood and the emitter out or wired out also have the 12V out (I guess) will "short" together.

PLS HELP., if it cannot be done , I will buy the Xantech.

Regards

Tom

Do NOT connect the denon's output directly to the Kenwoods input... You will let the magic moke out of the Denons base, and posibly the Kenwood as well....

What you can try is this... Get a Three position Minijack, and wire up ONLY the Signal and ground(Tip and Ring) Then use a Standard Mono Jack plug into the Denons base. This way, the 12v will NOT go back into the Denon (Which has its own power supply)

If your not into soldering, Buy a Stereo Minijack Headphone extension cable to hack.... Confirm the Tip and Ring with a Multimeter and cut short the Sleeve lead.
