My real name is Dan. Not Daniel, just Dan. Nothing in the world wrong with the name "Daniel" actually. (sucking up a bit to Mr. Tonks here...) I'm a victum of circumstance. My parents didn't see the value in adding the "iel" to my name. Imagine the difficulties associated with having a nickname for a name. Bob, not Robert. Rick, not Richard... When I get pulled over, the cops never believe me!
Started out with all this fun stuff while in High School (early '70s) with a book called "Sound System Engineering" which was nothing more than a "for dummies" book in it's day. My buds and I had a horrible sounding rock band and they thought with my affinity for this techy stuff, I could make us sound better. I did get the diagnosis right--defective musicians. The band broke up, thankfully.
Steeley Dan's Reelin' in the Years was all the rage that summer. I had the record, a Vox Beatle amp and a turntable. Turns out, that was enough to rock my parents out of their own house. Years later, I had a 6' Advent projector (around 1979) and KMET used to similcast stereo concerts along with one of the local TV stations from time to time. I've been hooked since then.
I wasn't early into our business per se. Never put Craig car speakers in walls for example... My education is in electronics. Worked in manufacturing for a while at Bell Industries. The Voyager and Voyager II both have things on them that I made. Afterwards, I moved into consumer electronics. Sorry, don't even remember why. Opened my business on April Fools Day, 1979, so I've been gainfully unemployed since then. Retail consumer electronics sales. Watched big local hitters like "Fred Rated" give way to Circuit City, Silo and Best Buy while I/we migrated to a service and repair organization. Taught video theory at the local community college part time those days.

I'm Tony, I am the owner and currently sole employee of Trillium Tech. I got into this biz after a long and painful career in broadcast television, slaving away for lousy pay at crappy little local affiliate stations. I brought my well rounded skillset and passion for audio and video into my own business, that may someday pay the bills.
I live and work in one of the most beautiful places on earth, Wild, Wonderful West Virginia. Before you laugh at that statement, let's just point out that all the city-dwellers are desperately trying to turn my whole state into a resort community with several high end vacation home developments based on our gorgeous scenery and multitude of outdoor activities.
That being said, I feel it's my job to bring them the best in entertainment and home technology systems. Since I can't stop them from coming here and crowding my little corner of heaven, I can at least make a living off of them doing something I truly love. So it's almost a win-win.
I own a very small company, with me being the sole employee and owner, I do too much. I need a business manager, but that isn't currently in the budget. I do RTI, NetStreams, Polk, Yamaha etc., and only sell things I have a real faith in.
As much as I love my situation (though it's stressful and I spend many sleepless nights wondering if I can pay the bills), I'm considering brushing up the ole resume before the stress of trying to manage a business puts me in the same state of mind I was in when I left the TV biz.
True story.

Welcome! My family migrated from Iaeger WV to Chicago in the 60's looking for work. All but a handful of us moved back to Iaeger. Beautiful Place! Where are you in WVA? My biggest reason for not moving back is that i thought i wouldnt be able to find work...Now i wonder if its possible :).

39 cent, check yer PM. I was in Iaeger a few months ago to check out a 70 Challenger for sale. As many times as I've moved away from WV, I always end up right back here. I grew up in Greenbrier county, but I'm thinking of moving myself and my business to Raleigh or Fayette county. There is a lot of opportunity in WV these days, thus the heavy competition in my neck of the woods.

13.5 years of AD service in the United States Marines. Proud that ALL installers are either current Marines or prior Marines. while Rick seems to be shooting rounds at Stan.... I seem to be taking rounds from Patrick...........
On the list of reasons to hate.....
Control 4 dealer Republican Pro McCain (See prior post) Pro Gun Control...(meaning... Gun control is hitting what you shoot at! LOL)
OK have a NICE 4th!!!! some of us tried to get into the marine corps, but our heads wouldn't fit in the jar... i spent six years as an infantry ground pounder in the army before learning to pound on consumer electronics for a living. :) started in sales at circuit city, then ultimate electronics, before starting a company with a friend in 2003. i've been managing projects, programming remotes, and overseeing installations ever since (celebrating 5 years with no catastrophic events or *cough* flooded condos). in case anyone cares, i think McCain and Obama are both tools, and gun control is a steady hand.

If you can afford it, and you have no prior convictions, then you should be allowed to own as many guns as you want. Gun control... HAHAHA... how about people control?... and education for that matter...
naw, lets just blame it on hardware.

Hi, I'm James, one of the UK contingent.
First foot in the door, was working in the lighting / sound department of a local theatre when i was 13 where I spent 5 years. I have done a few bits in-between but have been in the home AV side for the last 4 years. So yes, I’m still a 'noob'. I specialize in audio/video distribution as well as solving problems I get told are imposable. Hands up anybody on here that is a specialist in that last one.
Sadly I hardly get time to my real work so don’t get to post much on here but intend to pull my finger out in that respect.
