I dont expect a Canadian to get it

When I was very young I was in London with a bright white and blue Maple Leaf jersey. Some kids asked me if I was a Yankee, being a young kid from Toronto the only Yankeess I knew of were the baseball team. So I responded no, I don't play baseball. I got the weirdest looks from the kids and had no clue why.

You mean that time when the North half and the South half tried to kill each other? We might have heard of that. I think it was a big deal, at the time anyway, haha.

Yankee (Yank) originally described someone from the states hence Roddy's experience in London. Some point after the 13 colonies were established and before the civil war "Yankee" described Northerners.

And baseball.

This is the exact path I took to get into AV. You'll do well. It's a surprisingly creative industry to be in. Welcome to R.C. Cole.

I've been a member of this forum for 11 years and 1 day, and have never introduced myself!
My last posts were in 2009 and since then I've been distracted by a divorce and rebuilding my life. I returned here following a Google search for something or other and what a blast from the past I thought.
It's refreshing to see so many respected members with such a wealth of experience and knowledge are still here contributing, sharing experiences, sharing knowledge, moaning, bitching, being grumpy and enthusiastic about our industry.

It's a terrific place that I have to say, I've quite missed.

Michael.
Sticking to what I'm good at.

I suppose I should reintroduce myself since I changed my name (formerly Trillium Tech). But I posted so rarely before anyway that I probably could have just slipped in unnoticed.

Hi guys, My name is Ben, I'm the new President/CRO of the Consumer Technology group at NapcoMedia. We've got Technology Integrator, Dealerscope, FutureVision, and CE Week publications and events.

I've been tasked with refocusing our brands, and ensuring that we bring a value to our audience - which is you guys (and gals)

I'm six week into the job, and every Custom Installer I've spoken with has advised me to get an account on here. I figure the best way to understand an industry is to learn from the people who live it everyday. So after lurking here for a couple of weeks, I decided to get a log-in and introduce myself.

So if you have anything, good, bad, or ugly to tell me, I'm all ears. I'm here to learn and help y'all out. No bullshit. Shoot me straight. I promise you the same.

As for me personally, I'm a Native Texan, did my college at Mizzou, and just moved to Philly from NYC.

Hi Benjamin and Katie. Looking forward for your input here, always nice to have industry insiders on here. Some really good insight from some good guys like Fred, Brent, Ed. They offer solutions and insight but don't shove their products down our throats, they don't have to.

Hi I'm Will,

I live in the pacific northwest and own a little business with my brother doing home theater installs. www.pnwav.com
I've been a professional sound designer and audio engineer and musician for 20+ years and always dabbled in hi fi but then got roped into doing some installs for a contractor (my brother) so I appreciate the wealth of knowledge you all bring to the table!

Hey, I'm Johnny from Santa Rosa Beach, FL.

I went to school for audio engineering and moved to Nashville. So, naturally, I started working in restaurants bartending. (Let's just say that engineering didn't work out) I'm basically fifteen years late on starting a career, but whatever.

Blah blah blah, years later I got into this business with zero experience. I've been working for almost two years trying to learn as much as possible, but it's difficult because one day we're doing one thing and the next we're doing something completely different, so there is little repetition when it comes to hands on experience. Some things I've gotten the hang of, some things are still Chinese to me, and some things I'm not even allowed to touch. While in school, though, I religiously read and posted and conversed on a message board much like this one but for audio engineers and it significantly increased my understanding (I believe I was the top of my class, but didn't stick around for graduation because my family couldn't be there and I just wanted to get home). So, here I am. I'll ask a lot of questions because a lot of you seem to be quite knowledgeable. I'd like to be able to surprise the people I work for/with and make them ask huh? When and where did he learn that? Not being great at things doesn't sit well with me sometimes, this being one of them.

Yes, I will at times ask stupid questions, so please be patient. I don't take kindly to dickheads.

Thanks in advance for any help and input anyone may provide me with.
Everyone should learn something new every day.
