I am jealous of all your Festool! We have a client that does a lot of woodworking and he is always showing us his latest Festool toys.

Hey there, the name is Jordan.

Worked for Dish Network for about 1.5 years before starting my own installation business. Wall mounts, surround sound, a/v rooms, basic trunk slammer at this stage. However, I am licensed, insured, and all that jazz.

As of right now it's still a 1 man operation working on my time off (also tech support for Cox). But in the future I wan't to start doing new construction prewires, have a storefront, etc...

Welcome Jordan!

This place is a wealth of knowledge, you will find your self quickly addicted :) We all started somewhere. Glad to hear your Licensed & Insured, I think that puts you ahead of the trunk slammers :) Grow your business, dont focus on a storefront. Spend that time and money on streaminling your company and making contacts with a good architect, builder and Interior designer! Small office and maybe a tiny showroom is a good goal :)

Hey Jordan.

Agreed on the storefront. Get a house with a big garage and consider becoming a member of a weekly networking group like BNI to make more contacts. Eventually your AV business will take over the Cox cable jobs. Have fun!

Just Trying to learn CCP on Universal remote. I have the MX 850 editor pretty well down. Bought an MX 780 to practice with. Started With basic Security systems
12 years ago.
Moved to Home theater and automation. A lot more fun.
Still have a lot to learn.

Hello,

my name is Charris....(dah)

I have started my own integration firm (and also integration products distribution) 1.5 years ago kind of by accident. I had a Sonos at home, loved it, contacted them for distribution for my country, they accepted and now we are distributing Sonos, Tannoy, Artcoustic, Stealth Acoustics, Triad, Chief, Rako, Planar, Eubiq, Muxlab, RTI, Ekey and Centralite. We are based in Nicosia, Cyprus, Europe (small island in the Meditteranean - 600k population) and the distribution market is not very big so we also have an integration team that handles from the smallest project to 500k+ AMX huge ones. We also do Kaleidescape, Lutron, Vantage, AMX, Request, Escient and Pronto. We are also starting slowly to expand to Athens, Greece.

I am also in love with this industry and at the moment it looks like a dreamjob. We will see though if this will continue for long...

I'm Steve and a residential CI in the UK. for the last ten years.

I approach my work from an aesthetic POV first and specialize in insetting TV mounts etc. in the wall.
This enables me to install TV's in a neat and professional manner with no visible metal work or cabling when viewed from the side.

Hate TV's hanging 50mm off the wall with all the BS behind showing.

I also specialize in ducting entire houses back to a central hub enabling me to pull cables through at any time now or in the future.

This is considerably harder to achieve in the UK because most buildings are brick built over here with very few dry walls.
It's the quality of the physical fit of TV's and AV equipment in homes that is most important to me after which the electronics and technical side are easy these days.
At present I fitting a lot of Samsung ES series TV's which are my favourite TV at the moment.
I have photo examples of my unique method of installing these TV's for anybody who is interested.

Hi all!

My names Rudy, just started a company in NJ and taking my hobbyist enthusiastic mentally into this small business venture. Honestly, I'm scared as hell but giving it try. I'm starting this business as a weekend/after work deal in hopes that it can elevate it into a full-time gig. I certainly will hustle as much as I can since I HATE my current job as an inside sales representative.

Just insuranced the business (licensing not required in NJ for low voltage) and going through a branding/marketing campaign with an agency in hopes to give it a modern, hip feel and attract business. I have a few small jobs this month so I'm excited to give it a go. I've already learned a lot from reading here daily. I'd appreciate ANY/ALL advice from you experts out there. I think the largest obstacle is education myself on all the various products out in the market.

Would you guys recommend attending InfoComm Expo? Any classes I should take to further my knowledge?

Thanks again!!

Welcome!

Where in NJ are you located? I started mine in NJ, moved to pa for reasons you will soon find out. Working for people below the Princeton line absolutely blows so I hope your north of the Princeton line :)

Also, you might want to read up again on the licensing...seriously. NJ has one of the strictest consumer protection boards in the country, and they do check. You do need a license.

Is that really why you moved? Because PA has no state contractors license for limited energy electrical? I was always shocked by this. If you're in PA without a license how can you work in NJ? We used to always sub out the prewires and electrical.
