Hi,

Does anyone have a mfg. or part no. for recessed "clock box" electrical outlets to be installed behind flat panel monitors?

Thanks,

Ed

in the interest of having those of us with answers be able to give them to you,

when asking for brand names,

please at least give us the NATION you are in!

there are a lot of American and European users of this site, and I bet it matters.

I KNOW that you happen to have included your location in your profile, but think of it this way: you are asking for help but you are making me take the time to go away from this page, just to find out if I am on the same CONTINENT as you...and brand names do seem to vary from HEMISPHERE to hemisphere.

A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

Okay, now that I am off my rant....

the first item yielded by a google.com search for "clock outlet" (with the quotes) was a hardware company who listed the manufacturer as Leviton, as suggested above. Leviton has just about all of this stuff.

By the way, be sure that your plasma does not have a right angle plug with it. I made forty bucks one day when I was in the process of mounting two Sony plasmas. One had a right angle plug and they had installed a clock outlet; the other one had a straight plug and they had no room for it. So I traded and profited....

Go to your local Home Depot, Lowes, etc. I just picked one up the other day from the Depot. Needed one in a pinch. And on the right angle power cords, I still haven't figured out why all the manufactuers don't supply one. Doesn't make any sense. Or maybe its me

and how would right angle plugs help if we all installed clock outlets?

The best thing I have seen along this line is at All Electronics, in Los Angeles and in Van Nuys, CA: it is a 12" extension cord, with a 360 degree rotatable right angle power plug on one end and a standard in-line three-prong power outlet socket on the other. It converts straight to right-angle, and you can point the right angle up, down, sideways, whatever.

I could be wrong here, but I think NJ meant that the clock receptacles wouldn't be needed if there were more right-angle plugs in the world.

I meant, I do not understand why manufactures do not supply them. Most installs are on flush mount wall brackets or something similar. Most of us "AV" guys are not licensed electricians to change standard outlets to clock outlets. Yes great if you have the time to warn the customer to get the electrician in, but how often is that going to coordinate right? Just my 2 cents.
