Sorry about the noob question. I reciently got a program for my smart phone that allows you to learn .ccf file. What I would like to do is create custome .ccf files for it, but since I am terribly new at this I'm not sure where to start. Are there tutorials out there. Do i need special hardware/software. Thanks in advance.

Well, first, we need more info.... What do you mean by "Learn ccf files"???/ That doesnt make sense. What hardware do you actually have? You might be better off posting this on the PDA or Pronto/RC5000 Forum.

The CCF Programming software is called ProntoEdit. its available in the files section here.

Well basicly its a program that by dropping the .ccf file on the phone, it extracts and imports the ir codes for the program to use. I have a laptop with ir and i did try using prontoedit, but how does it work? Do you just put the remote controller up to the ir and push the button and the laptop will sense it?

Pronto edit is meant to work with a Pronto. It can just edit CCFs. To learn codes you need a Pronto

So it is impossible to create custom .ccf files by using a ir signal from a regular tv remote?? Is that right?

the software/PC does not have any learning capabilities. It is designed to create the interface. It is the Pronto that does the learning, it contains an IR receiver. Some people have created software (i.e. PDAwin) that uses CCFs on PDAs. With that you can also use a PDA to get the IR codes. But I have not heard of similar software for a PC
