Any one ever hear of a philips TV's havinga master remote to access the user menu? That's what philips tech support told a customer of mine when he called them. Is this just crap or is this true?

i admit i am not a total expert on every tv ever made; however, that sounds just like a typical, "i don't know so let me read my script" responce that you get from undertrained tech support. i doubt that is true, if it blasts IR, you can capture it.

Yes they have special programing remotes that are bright green. I use them at the Cardinals Stadium in Arizona. They are a pain in the butt, but you need them to program some Philips TV's, mostly commercial I was told.

This is weird. A client has one of the early Philips HDTVs, and it's got a master remote that you use to get to the user menu. It's called a Pronto, and it's got a simple program to access a stupid menu system (unfortunately, similar to the latest Sony, but Philips had that stupid idea first!).

Special bright green programming remotes? What do they program that a regular TV's regular remote doesn't program? The only variances I've seen between TVs have been the amount of things that come up when you hit menu, the cursor pad and enter. TouchCommander, do those TVs with the green remotes have other remotes for daily use?
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

olyirl,
what does that Philips Master Remote do?

Since I asked that question ten years and 4+ months ago, I have learned that there is a whole world of different TVs, and regular TVs with normal home use features but also added features, for a use called "Hospitality."

A TV set for Hospitality use doesn't work like a home TV. It will have menus and channel lists set up for the venue, the purposes being to limit the TV to only the channels and features that the venue wants to allow, and to lock out normal remotes so that "guests" won't steal TVs. I've seen signs on TVs stating that these TVs won't work at home. That basically says "steal me and you steal garbage," since people won't be able to use them at home.

At least not without the green remote.

To anyone reading this who wants to chime in: note that this subject has not needed, nor benefitted, from any answers for more than ten years. I'm guessing that dpinc isn't waiting for an answer any more!
