Dish Network tells me that they don't market a receiver that can be controlled with an IR remote except for their low end unit which doesn't support Dolby Digital output. They suggested that JVC made such a unit but I am not able to find one on the JVC website. Does anyone know of a receiver for Dish Network that can be controlled by my Marantz RC5000 IR signals? Is the solution to jump to Direct TV? Is there some kind of a box which will read the IR signal and tranmit an RF signal? Any other solutions?

I new at this. Any help is appreciated.

If you have never tried DirecTV you should, I have used Dish and DirecTV and Dish is terrible compared to DirecTV. Change service, I guarantee you will be happy.

I do not believe that the person you spoke with at Dish Network was well informed. To my knowledge, all of the Dish Network receivers can be controlled by IR. As I am writing this post, I have a 3000 unit in my office and a 6000 a few rooms away. Both units are fully controllable from my Marantz remote.

However, this was an issue with Dish Networks first units. When they first came on the market, many of their units could only be controlled via RF.

Now, I will give my standard warning. Test it yourself with the unit you need to control. It is always possible that Dish has started making units that are RF only again.

Also, Dish does not have disrete commands if you need that.

QQQ, that's very interesting. I do notice that when I use the Dishnetwork RF remote, that the IR sensor(that transmits IR signals from my home theater to the components in another room) blinks indicating that is is receiving IR signals at the same time. I have two model 4000 receivers that I have mounted in the basement, input into a modulator so that one is on channel 67 and the other on channel 69, and then transmitted throughout the house wiring via my Monster panel. I need a separate unit that I can place in my component cabinet dedicated to the Home Theater System in my great room.

Your Model 6000 is currently featured on the Dish Network website but there is no mention of IR capabilities. They currently have a special on the DishPVR 501 for $199 which would be perfect for my use if it can be controlled from my Marantz RC5000. Looks like I should talk to more Dishnet technitions to see if I can get better information.

Did you "learn" the codes or were you able to find them in a file somewhere?

Thanks greatly for this information.

Guys,

ALL of Dishes Receivers receive IR, most even transmit it through their little blaster to closeby VCR's for recording...why do you think they give you the option to set up a VCR with codes in the.....GASP....instruction manual....

Whoever you spoke to at dish is an idiot...I work several blocks from Dish HQ in Littleton, we get all the toys to test, and we have great local techs!

Stick with dish, I personally had DirecTv and Dish both, and am far happier with dish, the aprox 100 channels of music alone pale DirecTV's! They'll both be the same company soon enough anyway!

JD-

In addition to my above post, I have more thoughts and suggestions for you...

One- EVERYTHING IS IR! So just relax and we'll work through this together!

Two- I have about 10 customers w/RC-5000's and Dish Receivers (5000, 6000, PVR501, 301, 4000, etc....) and about 100 with Pronto and Pronto Pro's...they all work togehter just ducky!! So, let's figure this thing out!

Did your RC-5000 beep when you taught it the codes? If so, that's good it means the remotes are working correctly!

Did you go into the setup on your receiver to make sure it was set for IR (I'm not sure which, if any Dish receivers won't do both simutaneuously, but there may be some out there so double check that!)

Did you, or any other tech, change the REMOTE address after you programmed the RC-5000? If that happened for any reason, the receiver will no longer respond to the codes you taught the remote.

I frequently program Rc-5000's, Pronto's and Pronto Pro's at my home and in the field...I have controlled all of the hottest newest dish receivers in the last several weeks with IR from Philips remotes and others, so don't worry....we can figure this one out! These include the PVR501, HD6000, 300 and 301, plus older units...the 501, 301 and 6000 are all only about 1 month old!

Actually all the dish net rec. are always receiving IR signals and those who receive RF do that as well, (at the same time)

PS, I was installing 501's and 6000's back in July.

And yes Dish is way better than DirectTV, just count how long it takes to talk to a real CSR.

No, I menat I've installed them AS recently as one month ago (manufacture date) so I know they're really new and repsond to these codes....

Kudos to Brent for having the balls to tell it like it is about DirecTV, all the installers and tech out there who've spent 10-15-45-1:15 on hold will certainly agree...had to call Dish tonight, got throught VM prompts and to a real human in less than 30 seconds. Talked to DirecTV the other day, it took a week (John Denver song?)
