I use an old piece of basic software that I've had forever now, I think it came from Vantage lighting or something. I can't remember where I found it. I've messed with Hercules though, and it seems to work well for what I need it for. Download page is linked below.

You should be able to enter in plain hex values under the serial control tab. Make sure the hex checkbox is marked. I like to put spaces between each byte for readability but spaces shouldn't matter.

Does anyone know of any type of remotely controlled IR to RS232 programmable converter?

I don't have too much knowledge in this area but my idea is this

IR remote control (ex. button left pressed generates code 0x001) >> IR receiver gives the code to RS232 converter>> Converter turns code 0x001 into AD A2 01 23 C6 command (preprogrammed) and sends it to the rs232 (ex-line port)

same procedure goes with other buttons/different codes

I would appreciate some expert help.

RTI processors can do this.

There are a few older posts in the Installer's Lounge about this that might be helpful, they can be found using the forum search button at the top. Also, quick search on Xantech's site found this, it might be worth reading through the manual to see if it suits your needs.

Just for curiosity... are you guys getting feedback out of the tv ?

otherwise, there is no point of wasting so much time on rs-232 if you have all the discrete ir commands...

There is no feedback. The only benefit is no IR blaster on the front. If all you need is power on and off and don't want to open the TV to ember IR or dont' have the bluetooth area then I can see the point. Or if you want to use IP and need a way to turn it on.

Great posts on here except I am not tech so dont understand most of it... I just installed a WMN5090 and hooked in my Samsung LED UN46D6300 thinking since it has ex-link it would work. Well it does but only partially; I get a menu to move side to side and back to center but no commands for tilt which I would like to have.

Appears to be firmware in the TV so best i can tell I need an external device to operate the wall mount. Has anyone built anything successfully that I can buy at a reasonable cost or have any reccomendations?

Anything new on this topic. I recently got a new samsung 4k tv and it will not control the mount. I am also interested in finding out if anyone knows of any firmware updates that can control the mount with the samsung tv. the TV i have is UN55JU6500FXZA and tv mount is WMN-5090

I would be tempted to work with the TV's USB power pin. When the TV is ON, the USB has power and could key a simple relay that sends the mount to the desired position. With any mount moving scheme, be sure to work through the safety implications.

There are a few other benefits. You can set the volume level. That allows you to show feedback as a function of the level your code sets. It will track since you've set the level on turn on. You cannot do this with IR. It is a rather simple protocol, check sum or not.
