Flatie.. there is not a manual or any real information about the Ex-Link jack as far as i know. Many have asked about it and no one has come back here posting that they got it working properly.

Hi,

thx for answer.
I thought that somebody has create selfmade solution or something else. IR --> Exlink. but it doesnīt seemed so.
The easiest way is a firmware update ;-) i donīt understand the samsung marketing. imho is it a little implant. The wallmount is great and they can sell much more of them....but they didnīt supportet them with the new TVīs.
So I must buy a wallmount from another manufacterer.

Has anything changed? Do you still have to turn the TV on w/ your finger or w/ IR before you can issue RS232 commands?

Has Anyone gotten ANY controlling to work of the PN58C8000 or other current model 3D Plasma series of that line?

I know my serial cable works because I can set the tv to debug mode and the serial port to 115k and I can see all the text it spits out.

But I've tried sending commands I've found on various threads online, with their checksums, and gotten no reply at all from the TV even when powered on.

I've tried every baud rate I can, in both debug and UART modes for the TV's port.

I'm sending from a BitWise controls box as the "computer". They have a program that lets you send strings and monitor replies in a window. I guess I have no proof that the messages are ACTUALLY being sent. Guess I need to test the transmit function of the cable somehow. Hook it to a computer instead.

But I'd feel the continued effort would be more worthwhile if I knew SOMEONE was controlling THIS model of Tv this way and one verified command I could use to test it. Most interested in "power on" (yes, I've read that some models can't do this)

Thanks!

I am not controlling your model. I did do a 50" samsung LED last year via ex-link and found the exercise pointless since all the Sammy gives back is ack fail/success responses. Might as well have saved time and effort and done IR.

at this moment - 9600-8-n-1
theese are hex codes for WMN-5090
AD A2 01 03 A6 - LEFT
AD A2 01 04 A7 - RIGHT
AD A2 01 02 A5 - DOWN
AD A2 01 01 A4 - UP
AD A1 03 00 01 01 A6 - works like power off - fold the arm, but power on command and position retrieve code is not found yet.
maybe in a few days i'll add this and memory codes... (disassembling is in progress, but it takes time)

Reviving old thread. After making this cable and connecting my pc I see the output of the TV looks just like this. But I am unable to send these commands via rs232. What could I be missing?

I just installed a few of the newer Samsung Smart LEDs and was able to get the Ex-Link working after some trial and error. Well, a lot of trial and error. If the pinout of the interconnect is correct, it should work using these serial specs-

The most important part is that there is NO delimiter after sending commands, so don't tack on a carriage return or line feed. Also, send it as a hex command. Each pair of characters in brackets represent a hex byte, so include or omit the brackets as necessary.

9600,8,n,1

{08}{22}{01}{00}{02}{00}{D3} Volume Down

If the power on command actually works with that, you might have just become a celebrity.

With RTI---
I just used a general purpose 1/8th tip ring sleeve pig tail for the EX end crimping the 3 conductors on to 3 conductors of a cat 5 cable  (blue, grn, brn/wht) .  If you are using method B for your cat 5 termination  blue is ground, Brn/Wht is receive and green is the transmit.  You need to do this in a null modem. so receive goes to transmit and transmit goes to receive. This means that brn/white goes to the sleeve and green goes to the tip. Ground is shield.

Unless you are just doing power on / off, there is no point to using serial with the smart TV's as the most important commands are missing such as;

-Return
-FF
-Rew
-play
-stop
-red
-grn
-blu
-yell
-info
-internet

The RTI driver has "internet" but no "return" so you cant use the online features effectively.

The RTI IP driver has no discrete power commands.

With RTI you cant use samsung serial combined with samsung IP or serial drivers as it will break the drivers necessitating a processor reset.

Couldn't you just send a power on RS232 string though? There is really no point in having the serial driver.

With RTI you cant combine serial and IP comands on the same device in most cases it breaks the drivers requiring a processor power cycle, or a TV power cycle or both. With Samsung you also cant combine IR and IP comands that will also require a TV power cycle

I should state that I am trying to actually control a Samsung wall mount WMN5090.....

What programs are you using to transmit hex? I figure my issue may be a syntax one and got tired of the trial and error....

Did anyone figure out how to control the mount through rs232 commands.

Maybe it would be easier to find a third party controller that has a remote and connect it directly to the motors in the mount.

The fold back on power off and last position on power on would be lost but I wouldn't mind.

Does anyone know about where to find such a controller?
