Ok, keep an open mind when you read this. I installed a system in a clients home, he already had the Pioneer plasma(with that damn media box) hanging on the wall, and nothing else. I supplied the restof the gear and the install. The equipment is in another room, and a color Pronto(TSU6000)with the RF extender is being used. Everything works perfectly, aside from the fact that the plasma has issues with turning off on some of the Tivo IR codes(or so the customer has said) after a while of these codes turning it off(and the plasma coming back on by itself a few seconds later), The media boxbecomes damaged. He swears(and now the Pioneer fix-it guy) swears it is the remote doing this. If it is a bad code, I can believe it, but twice I have tested all the codes, and I works fine, then a few weeks later, this starts to happen. Has anyone had a problem like this? I have installed many plasma TV, with IR control from a TSU6000, and have never had this happen, only on this stupid Pioneer.

thanks

a bad off IR code damaging the media box??? did you use the discrete code that is posted here for this device? If so I can attest that it is not "bad" I have done many installations with this plasma and every job we do has a touchscreen and I have NEVER heard of this problem. You are using IR for the plasma though right. The pannel will pass its controll signal back down the line to the box. Keep us posted on this problem, its an interesting one.

Is the TIVO a TIVO TIVO or is it a Hughes Tivo-like unit. I once ran into a similar problem with some of the Hughes Sat receivers codes activating a Zenith LCD projector. I changed the Hughes receiver codes to another setting and resolved the problem. Never damaged the other components though.

I have installed lots of Pioneer plasmas and have never had this issue. I usually use Marantz touchscreens or a Niles Intellicontrol if I'm controlling it with IR and they work flawlessly. I'm quite confused as to how a bad IR code could damage the media center though. I've had two Elite plasmas that needed service within the last year. If it does need service, I was told to count the number of flashes that the power LED shows and this is how our Pioneer tech diagnoses the problem. Did your tech previously work for the cable company? Good luck.

It is a Tivo 2, and my client says it only happens when he uses the tivo programming on the remote. Likewise I have installed many plasma's , Runco, Zenith and Fuji mostly, and I have never had this problem before. I found that by taking the emitter off the actual ir in on the front of the plasma, and attaching it sideways, to give a small blaster effect, it seemed to help, but the stupid thing is doing it again. And to make things worse, the repair guy has told him it is a problem eith the remote, so it makes it harder to explain to him that the TV guy has no idea what he is talking about. I have relearned all the tivo codes back in, and tested them, and it seems to have worked fine. The Plasma is back from its latest repair seesion, so I am going back at the beginning of next week to redo it once again. I am clueless at this point. Guess thats why they call this Custom Install. I'll keep you guys posted.

Don't know if this is any help but you might try using the SR in jack on the back of the unit and going through another Pioneer product with the emiiter attached to it, it might filter out a code that is too similar to the Pioneer? Best of luck.

I have seen a similar problem. Conincidentally it was with an Ultimate TV sat box and the pioneer plasma with a media box and an TSU6000. My problem was that pressing certain cursor keys repeatedly would shut off the tv for a few seconds and then it would come back on. So I experimented for a while and figured out that if pressed just right the second half of the command followed quickly by the first half of it was the same as a reset command for the TV, apparently a code used by the Elite Plasmas, but not applicable to the ones with the media box since the box is what required the reset and this command resets the TV, yet the command was left in the monitor.

Anyway I fixed it by using some other IR tools I had to lengthen the time it took for the command to come out, and disallow repeats and then reprogrammed the pronto, no problems since.
