SB, that’s a lot of work, detail and tremendous amount of time for mounting a tv and sound bar. Maybe a sub it appears? Why not just suspend a p-ring centered where the sub cutout will go

SB, that’s a lot of work, detail and tremendous amount of time for mounting a tv and sound bar. Maybe a sub it appears? Why not just suspend a p-ring centered where the sub cutout will go From his post: To further complicate things, the electrical contractor did the low-volt rough in based on my wiring schedule so I wasn't onsite as much as usual to keep an eye on things.
Somewhere through the process, the contractor just sheet rocked over the wall and decided to also add a tremendous amount of blocking and backing material to make sure I had something to attach the TV to...
So I guess the short answer to your question is this was all just laid out onsite much like a retrofit job. I mocked up an image in Photoshop showing the approximate size and location of the TV for the client to sign off on before ordering the frame. Then I took a photo I had of the wall before sheetrock and taped it up with cut sheets for the Edge Frame, wall box and subwoofer and then started laying out the wall with blue tape.
Also made some cardboard templates of the wall box and sub to help with the layout.
In the end, had to cut out some blocking and backing material that the builder installed and then was able to drill up through all the blocking to run wires and conduit to the attic.

He did a great job. I should have been more clear. All of the tape marking studs and such. I do too, only where working. Not knocking him, just a holy crap dude thing.

It was just a weird situation because the job had dragged on for so long and changed so much. I taped up the whole wall for a few reasons: - If you look back at the photo of the framing, it's a complex wall where hardly any of the framing is standard 16" on center and there's also a lot of additional vertical 4x4 plus a lot of blocking. There's also an electrical panel in there with 2" conduit for the high voltage feed, some romex and a bunch of security wiring behind the blocking.
- It wasn't clear at first if the TV would be centered on the wall or offset one way or the other based on furniture. I only had a couple full width bays that could accommodate the sub woofer and wall box so had to sort out where it was possible to place the TV and then coordinate with the designer for final placement.
- If it hadn't worked out to hide the sub woofer behind the TV, the sub would have been placed low on the wall to the left of the TV, so marking out those stud locations was also important so I had a fall back plan.
In the end it worked out well... besides the cut in's for sub and wall box, I only had to make a single 3" hole up high on the wall to help guide the 1.25" conduit through the horizontal blocking.

Paul,
Awesome work as usual. Have some questions related to the media frame.
What size TV and how far above the Floor is the center of the TV? It's a 75" Samsung Q9FN... sorry, I don't remember what the final height was. Does the TV and speaker mounts just get affixed to the media frame back and then the back is screwed to studs or does the TV mount go into studs? Will let me know if you have to have studs centered in the room to have the media frame centered on the wall. Yes, the back of the Edge Frame is secured to the wall by screwing into the studs. There are some generous horizontal slots so stud placement usually isn't that critical. It's also easy enough to drive some additional screws through the back board anywhere you need them. The sound bar mounts to brackets that are factory installed on the back board... I've done 3-4 of these now and sometimes the soundbar needs a little adjusting to line up just right. The TV mount (Leon uses Sanus) is attached to the back board using some blind nuts in vertical slots that allow up & down adjustment. Once you get the mount positioned properly you tighten down the lock nuts and then drive smaller screws through the mount and into the back board to lock it into place. With at least one Edge Frame install I also screwed lags through the mount and back into the studs. The way the TV mount is attached has actually changed over time... I've done 55", 65" & 75" Media Frames so don't know if the changes I've noticed have to do with TV size or if they've just improved the design over time. The biggest word of caution is the wall has to be flat (this goes for Samsung Frame TVs too). If there's a bow in the wall, you'll have a gap between the wall and the back of the frame and you'll have to shim out to attach. The back board of the Edge Frame will actually bend to conform to the wall, but the wood frame will not. The wood frame has guide pins and mortised sections to guide it into place and support it, but it's held in place with magnets and if the back board has even a slight warp or bend, the frame won't secure properly to the back board.

Installed my first Sonos Beam today along with Sonos Sub and a 55" Samsung Frame TV over a fireplace. Nice, clean & simple...

Since you are close to Sonos and have toured their facility, you should offer to lease those photos to them for use in their materials for the Beam (Samsung also if you can reach them). Looks exceptionally clean.

Looking at the picture of Paul's open wall with the backing that was installed by the contractor, I am reminded how much I HATE when they add blocking. All I need is framing and nothing else. The blocking ALWAYS makes everything more difficult. Wish they would stop doing that.

Nice, clean & simple... Since Beast Buy can't get their crap together and make their Beam work, how did this one sound? I haven't seen any comments about that, yet.

The frame TV looks fantastic there. Now we just need Sonos to create "Connect Mantel" for a completely stealth installation.

I heard it back before it was released at the Sonos offices in their demo room which is setup as a small living room. It's definitely a big step up from the TV speakers, but not as good as the PLAYBAR or PLAYBASE. With the sub added, it's fairly impressive for the size and cost. I think it's a great value. For $400 you get a decent sound bar, a Sonos music player and an Echo with Alexa voice.

What did you take the pic with and did you photoshop it? Pictures taken with iPhone SE using ambient lighting. Photoshop was used to correct perspective and white balance. Here's the original photo right out of the phone and then the altered image below:
