Wow, Paul. Incredible work.
Be sure to post back if there is rattling from that sw. ;) I was expecting to chase some rattles, but there aren't any. The only thing back there that I thought might make noise are the two vertical TV brackets that hold the TV in place (Frame comes with Sanus mount), but seems there's enough weight from the TV keep anything from moving. There's a security panel in the equipment closet on the other side the of the wall and the door on the panel was rattling... I put some different screws in it which fixed the noise.

What device are all those speaker wires plugged into on bottom right of the rack? It's a pair of Niles SPK-1 speaker switches that switch rear & back surround speakers from the AVR to an AudioControl amp for Sonos. When the AVR is powered on the 12v triggers activate the speaker switches connecting the surround speakers to the AVRs outputs. When the AVR is powered off, the surround speakers revert back to Sonos.
The inwall subwoofer is powered by an amp in the rack. The audio matrix portion of the AudioControl M4800 amp handles switching the of the line level signal for the subwoofer so it can also be shared between surround & Sonos. DSP in the M4800 handles high & low pass filters for the surrounds & sub when in "Sonos" mode.

I went out to a project today that we did like 15 years ago. Client is upgrading the system. I took a photo of a crestron LC-1000. We had custom wood boxes built for them so table top and inwall panels could all be the same. We also had the faceplate customized by a 3rd party. The screen is struggling to display the UI but it still works.

Paul,
Do you use CAD or some other software to spacially lay out stuff like that Media Frame customization, or are you building it in real time only? I recall you’ve posted in the past other installations where pre-construction devices were placed with a much higher degree of accuracy than most- is that all happening on the site, or are you drawing up elevations beforehand? I don't work with CAD, but lots of the jobs I do are highly designed/engineered so it's common for me to work with the architect for up to a year before construction starts and we lay out everything is detail. Two jobs I'm working on now have plan sets that are around 300 pages each and both homes have also been fully rendered so the designers & clients can do a virtual walk-through and view/approve changes.I am good with Visio and can use it to put together scale drawings when necessary and also use PhotoShop to do visual mock-ups sometimes. The project the Edge Frame photos are from has been a little weird. It's a remodel that for a number of reasons has stretched out past 5 years. The TV wall in the photos was originally going to be a larger TV with custom cabinet below and Martin Logan Electrostatic speakers, sub and surrounds. The TV wall was also going to have an acoustic treatment that was ultimately eliminated so during rough in this wall was going to be left open and no pre-wire or conduit was put in place for the TV or speakers. To further complicate things, the electrical contractor did the low-volt rough in based on my wiring schedule so I wasn't onsite as much as usual to keep an eye on things.Somewhere through the process, the contractor just sheet rocked over the wall and decided to also add a tremendous amount of blocking and backing material to make sure I had something to attach the TV to...So I guess the short answer to your question is this was all just laid out onsite much like a retrofit job. I mocked up an image in Photoshop showing the approximate size and location of the TV for the client to sign off on before ordering the frame. Then I took a photo I had of the wall before sheetrock and taped it up with cut sheets for the Edge Frame, wall box and subwoofer and then started laying out the wall with blue tape.
Also made some cardboard templates of the wall box and sub to help with the layout.
In the end, had to cut out some blocking and backing material that the builder installed and then was able to drill up through all the blocking to run wires and conduit to the attic.Photoshop mock-up for client: Picture of wall before drywall: Tape up some stuff for reference: Layout with blue tape: Cardboard mock-ups to help with placement: [/img]

Paul - looks great, thanks for the inspiration. I forgot about this thread but have some pics from a clean up job I've been working on. It isn't a full rack, just front rails, so it's been a bit of work to get everything looking decent. On June 27, 2018 at 23:14, SB Smarthomes said...

What are the handles 1/3 up from the bottom? Middle Atlantic has them. They are handles to pull your rack around.

Yes, all the ports on the patch panel will be patched into switches before the job is complete. Not every jack will be in use, but I want them all active for the homeowner. The house isn't that big (9k sq. ft.), but has two home offices which both have a number of Ethernet jacks located around the room.

They don't cost much and are really useful for racks on casters... Thanks. Hadn't seen that. Nice touch, l like the functionality. I appreciate that you didn't use trim strips to cover the screws, in this closet.

Paul,
Awesome work as usual. Have some questions related to the media frame.
What size TV and how far above the Floor is the center of the TV?
Does the TV and speaker mounts just get affixed to the media frame back and then the back is screwed to studs or does the TV mount go into studs? Will let me know if you have to have studs centered in the room to have the media frame centered on the wall.
