I've messed with quite a bit of VCR brands. To me Sony has the most capabilities. Power on and off, Tuner, Line 1 and 2 inputs. I don't know what other discretes you'd need...

JVC, Mitsubishi, and Marantz models also offer "discrete" commands for the most commmonly requested funtions.

I don't believe the new Marantz MV-5100 vcr supports discrete codes. The older MV-880 did.

The Marantz MV-5100 almost has discreet codes (discreet off, Then off+power for discreet on), Sony, and Mitsubishi and solid. I have found some new JVC's, Sharp, and Panasonic Don't work.

Had no problem with any of the JVC vcr's using discrete codes.
