Sorry my orginal post was wrong.. long time since ive looked at my cabling.!!

Any way this is the correct layout and problem.

TV connected to Receiver via Scart to svideo
NTLDigibox connected to Reciver via scart to svideo cable, works fine.
Video Connected to NTLDigibox via scart to scart, works fine
DVD Connected to Receiver via svideo to svideo, pictures comes out in black and white. same problem if i try different svideo connector on back of receiver. therefore i know its not the svideo port
If DVD is connected to TV via same svideo to svideo cable comes out in colour. - therefore know its not the cable

Ok i dont want the receiver connected to the tv via svideo,(which would sort the problem out) because the connection is on the front of the tv, therefore i have to connect it to the tv via a svideo to scart cable.

whats going on.. i guess this is a common problem, but havent a clue how to solve it..

Thanks

John.

Johnny,

You suggest you've got scart to scart from your TV to your receiver. Is this right? I'm not in the UK anymore but I don't remember receivers having scart conenctions. Anyway, could you use an S-video to Scart from the receiver to the TV. ALso, if their is a switch on the back make sure that your receiver is switched to accept Svideo.

Another thought is wqhether you trying a Region 1 DVD and finding this problem. The NTSC signal might not be displaying correctly on your TV.

S-Video is one of the worst connections mechanically. Its pretty common for the jack to come lose and produce a black and white picture. First, test both of your cables directly into the TV to make sure they are good. (DVD to Receiver cable and Receiver to TV cable) sounds like one of those is lose or bad.

Impaqt sounds right on, and if the cables are good, and there's no adjustment switch on the receiver, hopefully the receiver doesn't have a circuitry problem. Try a different S-Vid input, if the cables check out OK

it could be a bad cable, but a few months ago we had a projector that was showing B&W on the S-video jack. Turned out someone had set the Projector to PAL format, the problem is that it was in Canada and it was being fed NTSC :-) someone had gotten into the menus
