To answer your question specifically. Let's say I only saved 30 minutes total on the 2 pair. This would include time to setup the drop clothes, shake them out and clean up dust on other furniture. Of course this 30 minutes is much less than what it would take but lets use it. At $85 and hour that comes to $42.50 saved in 1 job. Almost 10% of the cost. 11 jobs and its paid for. We get paid by the hour, so this wouldn't work for us...;) We use that dewalt cordless/corded. It has been the best so far that we have found, and have tried many. I will look into the $500 vac, but I'm not holding my breath...

2-1/2 gallon shop vac here also. With bag and foam filter. Small, light to carry and inexpensive; I don't really mind buying a new one every two years. I believe Shop Vac brand vacs have a three year replacement warranty.

Someone makes a backpack vac that has a mud ring template that attaches to the wall by vacuum. Comes with a router with a bushing. The template has the power switch on the handle. You hold the template with built in levels up to the wall and push the button starting the vac and holding the template to the wall.
Anyone have any idea what I'm talking about? Got a link?

You aren't truly a pro unless you've got a Fein vacuum. I was at a jobsite last year and saw one of these in action, I immediately had to have one. It is ultra quiet, won't tip over, is completely dust free, and has a 16 foot hose! It is not cheap, nor are the bags, but it is the best. [Link: feinus.com]I think I'll just print-out some "Fein" nametags (via Publisher), and tape them over the Dewalt Logos on my vac, so I'll look more professional!

I'll second the Fein. Not only is it the quietest shop vac I've owned, but it doesn't have that high pitch whine that some other (Craftsman) vacs have.

[Link: eureka.com]belive it or not, this is the best vac I have had in the van.....It substitues for a shop vac quite well. Plus it is a standard upright so you can go over all the carpet in the room you are working and leave it like the maid was just there. Customers love our neatness.

This has been my vac of choice. [Link: stanleysupplyservices.com]It is really small and light, but does a good job without getting clogged or blowing sheetrock dust around.

I look down my nose at you. It is beyond me why anyone would buy such a POS $500 vacuum when they could have true pride of ownership with a Miele S558 Red Velvet (OF COURSE with the Deluxe Powerbrush). You are a vacuum pretender sir, a wannabe. [Link: amazon.com]Please do not talk down to people. It does no good! I own a Miele. It is the best home vacuum I have ever used. But not made for job site use. My Dewalt 18volt is great for that.
