Not an installer, hope this is OK. I have a Niles IRP2+ with 4 devices attached in serial to it through their built-in remote cables that stick out the rear corner of the boxes. Everything works fine.

I have tried to add one more device (my Motorola 5100 cable box) by using an IRC2 microflasher attached to the variable out port. I have adjusted the output every which way, have moved the flasher every which way and cannot get it to work.

Have I exceeded the output of the thing by adding a 5th device? Any suggestions?

Thanks

Try swapping your outputs, put your built-in cables on the variable output, and the IRC2 on the fixed output. If either the output or the emitter is bad, this should help identify it. And, the built-in cables may not need a full output anyway.
Pay no attention to that man behind the curtain.

Thanks, it just took repositioning of the emitter and removal of the plastic window over the sensor of the 5100 to get it to sort of work.

Now another related problem. My RTI only powers the 5100 box when I am within about 5 feet of my Niles remote sensor. The AT&T remote that came with the 5100 can activate everything from even about 13 feet away through the same remote sensor. My RTI controls everything else besides the 5100 from about 13 feet away.

How can this be and is there any way to fix it? I have tried using the Motorola 5100 codes from the RTI website as well as published hex codes as well as "learning" the AT&T codes with the RTI in learn mode. Nada.

The thing that makes no sense is that I figure the Niles remote sensor outputs the same amplitude signal regardless of how powerful the remote is, as long as the signal is detected. If signals from the RTI can control everything from 13 feet away, why can't it control the 5100?

Thanks

I have had similar problems with cable boxes. I have found that sometimes the emitter is to close to the units ir receiver and that by moving it about an inch infront of the piece in question will eliminate the problem. I then make a small bracket and fasten the emitter to it. Hope this helps.
