dude, you would have seen this whole discussion in LOTS of detail if you had gone to the hdtv etc forum. yeah, you're trying to pick up channel 3, which is 2-1 in chicag.

good luck.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

Ed, What did you decide for CBS HD? I have the same problem. Dish said I would have to upgrade the Dish and receiver, OR Comcast said I could pick up a HD box today. Comcast is looking pretty good. Thanks Mark

CBS in Chicago is the worst.

It also is in Los Angeles, and its SD is on channel 2 here, as well.

When I worked for an A/V chain, I had an old-timer who did some of the antennas for us. When we were up on the roof together and I mentioned problems with Channel 2, he just started muttering and cursing. Most of the county is flat and you can see the transmitting tower, but that doesn't mean the signal comes in clearly. He would mutter about circular polarization (they sacrifice horizontal antenna performance so rabbit ears will work better) and bleeping idiots.

Is it CBS or is it Channel 2? Any other markets have problems with Channel 2? Channel 3 is right next to it, frequency-wise, and those are the frequencies closest to shortwave, not VHF, so they should have the most problems...but somehow Channel 4 is okay....

Wow, we get CBS on a FM dipole antenae shoved in the back of the TV here and it is beautiful. I guess we are lucky to be UHF 46-1. NBC on the other hand is 2-1 VHF so I can feel your pain. I have a 110" channelmaster 35' off the ground with an RCA rotor and it still sux with all the proper preamps etc.

You've got to make sure that it is on frequency 2-1, not PSIP 2-1. Is channel 2 the actual frequency of the digital channel?

From what I've gained from this thread, channel 3 is the actual frequency that it's broadcast on, and it's PSIP is 2-1?

If you REALLY want to read about the woes of OTA reception in Chicagoland, there is always the Chicago OTA thread at AVS. All 4400+ posts.
