I'm new to the custom install industry, This might sound odd but, I'm looking to go out on a few jobs with an installer, to get more experiance. If anybody wouldn't mind me tagging along, I would like to hear from you. I've been through Cedia boot camp, and plan on going to Orlando to take installer certification class and take the certification test. I've done a few small jobs, I know a little more than the basics, but I just need some more experiance. Please let me know if you are looking for some help.
Thank You

I'm a Chicago installer, and will (please, take no offense) play devil's advocate here.

What do you bring to the party? Can you truly help on a job, or will your presence at best not slow us down? And, (being blunt, devils will do that) what's in it for us? How do we address the questions of trade secrets, training our competition, allowing our competition access to our clients? Are you insured to work? If not, having you on our job site is a liability risk.

Whenever I run an ad for installer trainee, I get deluged with people who are willing to learn, but have nothing to bring to the table other than that. Viewed from the employers persective, it says "Train me, pay me to be trained, and maybe I'll stick around to the point past where you have broken even..."

Why have you taken boot camp if you're not working for someone currently? New to town? Are you looking for permanent, full time, long term employment? If so, say so, I'm sure there are plenty of people on this forum from the Second City who would be interested in talking with you.
Carpe diem!

Boy, in rereading my own post I find that it sounds pretty unfriendly. That was not what I meant at all, but you should be ready to answer the hard questions. It's good that people are interested in doing what we do.
Carpe diem!
