Anybody seen these Gateway 42" plasma tv's? It seems too good to be true. How can they sell these for 2K?
How hard can this be?

It is NOT a HD set, that's the main reason!

They are actually $3000 and the reason is because it is SD not HD. There are several makes being sold at this price.

You forgot to mention that it is truly a piece of crap.

Have any of you gone and looked at one of these?

I think I finally know what it feels like to have poor eyesight.

Box shops can get away with selling crap because it's ultimately the customers decision, and that can go and feel bad about their poor decision.

If I recommended and sold one like this to a customer, I would have one angry customer who would never refer our services.

Though, I'm sure it does just great as a computer monitor.

Right?

I would never recommend one. unless of course someone wants to spend $3000 for a 3" thick television they could hang on the wall.
I know one person who purchased one from gateway. he still hasn't recieved it yet but he went to the store and tried a dvd movie in it and he liked it. I didn't go and I've never seen one so I can't say what it looked like. I told him he could spend a little more on this investment and I would get him a deal so he could have something worth buying but he was set on spending what came out to $3800 for the POS plasma.

It's a Sampo product. It's not good. Just like Gateway's computers, they use other companies rejcted parts to make an inferior product!

I Have one and I love It. Also I connect a pressive scan DVD and a HD cable box. Works beatiful with my RC9200 because de Gateway plasma has discrete codes.
I pay per month $92. I Think is a good deal and the Picture is nice.

Don't buy, beside being a Sampo and it's not an HD Plasma, it will be absolete as soon as the new generation Plasmas hit the market next September with DVI-HD/CP ports wich will allow you to interface with an HD decoder box with a DVI output port for a digital to digital connectivity and the purest Video and audio delivered to your plasma. Also the new generation Plasmas will have a lower price in comparison and much better picture with added features, internal speakers and some will also have an internal HD Tuner.

I'm against gateway as well Mister T., buth the whole idea on buying one of these 3000 range units is to basically get a plasma at an affordable cost, at the cost of not having the newest technologies. I personally would just spend a little more and get the Panny 42" SD, instead of the Costco off brand specials..

Besides the fact that the screen is not clear and not HD the mount is pieced together and is just way too unstable.

I got to say man $92 month is a lot to pay for a set that will be outdated very soon.

Inside info from panasonic (Japan)have reported that the new generation of 42" and 50" HD Plasmas will definetely have DVI interface ports and a reduced retail price of about 30% or better in comparison to current prices. Also some 50" will have internal speakers and a sturdier mounting hardware. My educated guess will be that September comes, there will be a manufacturer's price war on plasmas, and some of the 42" HD prices will go way down to around $ 1.500.00
