Hi,

I want to extend an IR emitter to about 40' of cable through the wall. My equipment rack is away from my TV and I would like to control all my gear via RF.

I currently have a Theater Touch IRF-6 that has 8 mini-jacks with IR emitters that plug into it and it lives with the equipment away from the TV.

Thanks!

Shouldn't be a problem. I have done 80' plus with cat 5.

What exactly are your trying to control 40' away?

I'm assuming you have the T2 Remote to go with your IRF-6. (WHich has only 6 IR outputs... hence the name)

THis remote will output both RF AND IR for local componants. Quite often I have the equipment remote mounted being controlled RF while the TV is being controlled IR.

I'd worry more about your RF range than the lenght of the Emmitter leads. The IRF-6 has plenty of output to run 50+ feet of emmitter lead, but I have terrible luck with RF over 20-30 feet.

I am going to control the TV and Tivo with an extended IR emitter, but how do I wire it up?

Do I just take an existing emitter cut it in half and butt connect the wires to the cat-5? Does someone sell an easy to splice emitter?

I have a higher gain antenna on my IRF-6 and get okay range with it, I want to control the tivo from another room very near by but not in line of sight.

Best way is to just chop your emmitter and attach Cat-5 in between.

If it doesnt work, Verify Tip and Ring, and play with the Gain on the IRF-6 a little bit.40' should be no problem.
