O.K This one is pretty wierd. Typical surround setup 5.1 yamaha receiver, sony 5 disc DVD changer, sony VCR, Pioneer Elite TV, GE Cable Box. Now get this, when channel 11 and only channel 11 is on the cable box, I get this strange feedback sound. Almost sounds like an issue with the broadcast equipment or recording microphones. This noise and sometimes hum, (in all speakers, but more pronounced in the center) will change in volume and tone as the camera angle changes, but not as it pans. The noise will change significantly between commercials and programing. The noise is worse with live broadcasts such as a football game and the client claims when the score pops up on screen the noise will be more pronounced and change slightly in tone. I've disconnected every other component trying to isolate the problem with no success. The cable box has been replaced,(since my last visit, and now is worse) thinking a video chip was cracked and bleeding signal of some type, but no bueno. Cable company nor network claims any broadcast issues, and frankly I'd know because I'd have other calls about it from clients by now.
Once again this only occurs on channel 11.
Cabel box is connected via analog audio and composit video cables with the Yamaha doing the video switching. DVD is digital audio and component vid direct to the set. VCR is of course analog audio and composite vid through the Yamaha. Any input will be appreciated, Thanks, CMack

Have you checked the grounding on the incoming cable line and the power for the components?

cable company claims the ground is ok and as for the components they check out. Have a Monster Cable HTS 2000 and it indicates the ground is OK too. I did bypass the HTS 2000 coax just to eliminate the possibility of the surge protector being bad. Thanks, CMack

The problem occurs on only one channel. That eliminates everything except the cable box and the cable co's head end equipment. Can you try your cable box on a neighbor's cable, or a neighbor's box in this house? Channel 11 isn't by any chance a local channel, is it? Larry www.fineelectricco.com

Now that I know it's a local channel, there could be a point where the local signal is leaking into the cable system, and causing some sort of intermodulation distortion, or something equally technical-sounding. Here in Richmond, VA, our local VHF's are 6, 8, &12. Because of interference patterns in the video they couldn't get rid of, the cable company had to re-modulate channel 6 onto channel 9. Food for thought.... Larry www.fineelectricco.com

Larry, I don't think that could be the problem in this situation because others would be experiencing the same problem. Thanks, CMack

That's why we're asking if the same box does it elsewhere, and another box does it at this location. Larry www.fineelectricco.com
