I bought a new laptop and assumed it had a serial port.
It does not. So I have a Belkin USB to serial adapter.
The adapter works well on a home automation package that has RS232 communication. I can't get the PC to see the Remote. I have looked for Port seetings in Marantz. can't find any. I might not be looking in the right place.
Can any one help?

I've had a couple of problems using windows XP with the Marantz touchscreen setup for the RC5200 etc.
It all works fine until you try to learn a command from a remote.
They usually work but every now and again the program crashes.

As for the USB to serial adapter - these can be alot of trouble (had a very similar situation when using an ultra portable without a serial - couldn't get the Belkin to see the remote)

Try and avoid this situation if you can otherwise I beleive some posters on here have had better luck with the Keyspan product - try a search using 'USB to serial adapter' on this forum for more info.

Goodluck
