Installing a custom Home Theater and Video Distribution system within a home using Qwest Digital Cable requiring Gateway box from (Next Level Communications). The remote controls communicate with Gateway box via UHF signal at(433.98mhz).

I would like to eliminate Qwest Remote from equation and use another high end remote to control the digital gatway box and other home theater equipment. I was told by Next Level Communications tech support they have played with the Sony AV-3000 and it works. Probably because it works with both IF and UHF signals. Nothing against Sony but, are there other universal remotes out there that could also be used? (AMX, Creston, Philips)

I don't know where you got your information, but the Sony AV-3000 is not UHF nor RF. It only controls IR equipment.

The sony RM-AV3000 operates with an RF base station frequency of 10-500 KHZ, works with 4 AA batteries. You will see a long list of choices of RF operating remotes if you go this site home page and click on "Clicker Picker" Choose RF remotes.

Are we getting are remotes mixed up, both the Pronto TSU-3000 and the HTM MX-3000 will be RF, they haven't hit the market. But the Sony AV-3000 doesn't come with a basestation, and is NOT RF.

Edmund, this is not the Sony TSU-3000 nor the HTM-MX3000. This is remote is a different model as you can see, and it's an RF Base Station remote that works on the frequencies mentioned above.

10-500 KHZ is IR not RF. Yes, the RM-AV3000 comes up on the clicker picker when you check RF, but if you look at the detailed specs - it says NO under controls RF devices. I don't see any mention or pictures in Daniel's review of a base station. But since I don't own one, I could be missing something.

As far as controling the set top box with an RF capable Pronto/Marantz, these remotes use 418MHZ for RF, so the answer is probably not. European spec RF capable Prontos use 433.92MHZ - so maybe with one of these. Course that's not legal to do in North America.
