I notice that the 2nd generation Remote that sony made for the PS3 has an ir-transmitter as well. My question is, can that control Sony Devices only, or can i open my Panasonic TV and Pionner AVR as well. I need to know that to make my mind whether i buy this product

Panasonic TV - yes. Pioneer AVR - no.

Why not use HDMI CEC to control the PS3?

Actually i use PS3 remote to control media player on windows. I have assigned what each button does on windows, with a third party application. But i saw that this 2nd revision of the Sony PS# rmote has an ir function, so i thought if maybe i could open my TV and AVR, i wouldnt need the additional remotes.

What TV models and AVRs can it control. If its a no for Pioneer i'm also interested in Harman/KArdon AVR 151

EDIT: Sorry i just saw yout link, so besides the bunch of TV it supports, it only supports Sony AVRs? Why no availability for AVRs as well

I don't understand why you're doing that. There are plenty RF MCE and RF universals that will control everything.

Plenty of reasons

-Like the feel and built quality of ps3 remote
-Key mapping is done with a small utility, no winlirc or whatever translating ir commands
-bluetooth does not need pointing at something, you can be on the toilet and still pause or control whats on the other room

So for that and more, if i could just use it to power my TV and AMP from the same remote, that would be ideal for me

Great, but you're not going to get AMP control.

A real universal remote also has nice feel and build quality, requires no key mapping whatsoever, requires no pointing and will control any AMP, actually any device you can imagine. Furthermore, a universal can do macros that setup your whole system with a single button press rather than powering on the TV, AMP, PC and selecting the correct inputs manually. And you can put any command from any device on any button on the remote, eliminating the need to switch device modes to control different devices.

I think you've hit a dead end with the PS3 remote.

The Xsight Touch (Nevo C3) plus RF base is the only one I have personal experience with.
