So I understand that there is no remote out there that will show PS3 menus on a touchscreen or such. I understand that the various solutions involving IR adapters etc give access to "all 53 PS3 commands" (or whatever the figure was). That doesn't tell me what I really want to know, namely: when using the PS3 to listen to CDs, SACDs and audio blu-rays, can I get by without having to switch on the TV? Can I power on the PS3, stick an SACD in there, start playing it, jump ahead to track 5, jump back to track 3, play fast forward etc, all without having to use my TV for navigation?

Depends. If your TV is off can you do it blind right now with the PS3 controller?

Daniel, thanks. So what you are saying is that if I can do it with the regular PS3 remote control, then I can do it with the universal as well, and if I can't then not? Makes sense although I was hoping that someone would have come up with a way to do better than that...

Well, bluetooth-based PS3 remotes do have more dedicated function buttons which should make the task easier, but whether you will need the display is dependant on how well you work "blind". So if you can do it now with the existing controller, then I'd wager you could do it with a remote as well.

You could also use a PSP's remote play capabilities for this, as I seem to recall that you can select to route audio through the main system (although I'm not 100% positive that it will let you use the disc drive - I know BD movie playback isn't possible this way).

One caution: if you're using HDMI for audio, you'll want to confirm that you still get sound from your receiver with the display off.
