Yes I have been looking for all over the web and have found nothing close to what I need.
I know it has been asked many time, But surly someone out there has managed too make it work. I have found info on the 2005 MCE but not Win7 MCE
I would like to have a Discrete ON and a Discrete OFF for my Pronto 9600.
Problem I am having is when I have watched a DVD and then move onto Live TV the MCE will turn off because of the Toggle power.
Is there any way around this.

Thanks
Rob

Use variables in ProntoScript to control whether you send power toggle.

If you have an RFX9600, you can wire the 5V output from RFX9600 through a relay and then connect said input to Power Sense Input. Then, all you need to do is to engage the relay when you send Power On (real IR code behind this command is MCE Power Toggle) and then disengage the relay when you send Power Off (real IR code behind this command is MCE Power Toggle).

Hi Lyndel

Thanks for the advice but you just lost me.
I know the RFX9600 has the power sensors ports but how do I get that to work with a PC Media Center.
If I am understanding you correctly is to use a 5v relay to switch the power toggle.
What do I put through the relay the Ir sensor cable?
Any chance of a schematic diagram.

Rob

Look at the back of the RFX9600 and you will see an output terminal rated +5V. What you do is to use that power output and run the positive side through a relay and connect other relay output (now you have a 'switched' voltage - on/off variable or flag) to a Power Sense Input.

The end result is that when the relay is switched 'on', it makes contact and allows the +5V signal from the RFX9600 output to pass and go on to the Power Sense Input terminal. You connect the ground side of the +5V output terminal directly to the Power Sense Input's ground.

If you are Level 1 certified, review the extender training materials (PDFs) on the Philips site. In there, they mention various ways of wiring the extender and this may indeed be one of them. If it is not there, hopefully, from my description above, you will be able to figure it out.

Then, you build power on/off macros as follows:

Power On

Action #1 Fake-Power-On Component function - Send MCE IR Power Toggle - In My Database, set up this component function don't send if Power Sense 1 reports 'true'/'on'.
Action #2 Extender 0, Relay 1 - On

Power Off

Action #1 Fake-Power-Off Component function - Send MCE IR Power Toggle - In My Database, set up this component function don't send if Power Sense 1 reports 'false'.
Action #2 Extender 0, Relay 1 - Off

Note that although you are sending the same IR code data in 2 different component functions, you are using 2 distinct component functions so that when Power Sense is in place, exactly ONE of these functions will be executed, depending on the state of the Power Sense Input.

This solution is not the most ideal combination as it uses 1 relay and 1 Power Sense Input. However, it provides COMPLETE isolation between the power source of RFX9600 and the PC.

Note that you could just as easily have taken a USB cable from your PC (find a USB cable pinout somewhere on the web), cut off one end, and connect the Ground and +5V connectors directly to Power Sense Input. this way, you will not have to use the Relay as mechanism to signal on/off state.

Finally, with ProntoScript and System.setGlobal/getGlobal, you could have used variables to track all this and don't have to use Power Sense or a Relay. But, should you have a power outage on the PC, your remote still thinks PC is on when it is really off. The only real way to prevent this is with the USB connection from the PC to the RFX9600 and the use of Power Sense Input.

Hi Lyndel
Thanks for your post.

I have been trying the USB connected directly to the Power Sense input.
I cant seem to get my head around it.
Do I still have to setup the Fake power option on off ?
I have setup the power sense function page but the bloody thing still turn on and off when it is not suppose to.

Should I be using the port relay with the USB cable.
My media center does not switch the power off when the system is shut down.
I have disabled the power management in the USB Root Hub in the device manager but the power stays on when system shut down.

Thanks again Lyndel sorry to be a pain.

Regards
Rob

If USB is active when system is off, then you will have to resort to using relay with Fake Power option or maybe find a Bios setting that will allow you control whether USB is active when power is off. Sorry.

Hi Lyndel
Sorry to bother you again but I have pulling my hair out the last couple of day trying to work out how to build this macro as what is hi lighted below.
Do I use the Reusable macro section to create the fake power on off?

Do I have to write up a script in order for it to work and if so how do I do it.

Also you have mentioned below is to set up this component function don't send if Power Sense 1 reports 'true'/'on'.
Is this the add a power sense action. If it is I have tried it with power sense on and relay close to illuminate the power sense light but the MCE still turns on and off when I don't what it to.

Regards
Rob

Hi Lyndel

I still haven't been able to accomplish this task.
When the power sensor is on and I switch from say DVD to Pay TV The MCE still turns Off.

Here you explain how to create a macro. Are you referring to a reusable Macro?

Then, you build power on/off macros as follows:

Her you explain how to create a Fake Power On.
Action #1 Fake-Power-On Component function - Send MCE IR Power Toggle - In My Database, set up this component function don't send if Power Sense 1 reports 'true'/'on'.
Action #2 Extender 0, Relay 1 - On

This is the part that gets me. You say to set up the component function don't send if power sense 1 reports on.

For the life of me I don't know how to do this.
I have tried in my database but there is no option for the power sense.
I have also tried in the Activity Properties Action section but the power sense has nothing about don't send function if it is true.

Do I still have to use pronto script even though I am using the usb pin out option?

Please please help me out

Regards
Rob

Forgot to mention that I am using PEP 2 the latest version.

As Lyndel pointed out earlier, you can also use variables in ProntoScript to control whether you send the power toggle. I have discrete power codes for all of my equipment and I still use variables in this fashion, that way I can take certain actions conditionally based on the current power states of my equipment. That being said, there is an example file available for download from the files section on how to accomplish this called, "Device State Tracking for Beginners". Said download can be found in the files section under, "Files > Pronto Professional > Other > ProntoScripts > Functions". Enjoy!

If this still is an issue - Windows 7 Media Center actually does have discrete on/off.

You probably know, logitech harmony has a large database of devices and codes. I always use an old logitech remote and download al my devices in there. After that it is easy to learn de buttons in my pronto :-)

Is there possibly something incorrect with the "ON" code? The "OFF" works fine but the "ON" is shown in RED when I paste it into the database and will not work.
