Hello all, this is my first post here. I work for an AV company and have been programming URC, Pronto, Control4, etc.. for the past two years.

I have done a few TSU9600s but someone is asking me to control an Escient FP-1 with the RS232 port on the RFX9600. Now I've done it with an ethernet network, just fine. I really don't see how you can configure it with RS232. I mean the Escient interface is pre-built, and when you go to configure it, it asks for the network IP. Am I missing something?

This system is two parts. The main system has an RFX9400. The "House Audio" system, which is in a different room with different equipment (including the FP-1) has an RFX9600 hooked up to a Linksys wireless WRT54G router. If I put the RFX9400 in network mode, do I need any additional equipment to connect the RFX9400 to the RFX9600 network wirelessly?

I looked in the manuals and searched the threads and couldn't find a definite answer to my exact questions.

Thanks in advance.

You are not missign a thing. For RS-232, you'd have to write the script yourself. I've spent the last 4 months working on ProntoScript for TSU9600 to control an Escient via TCP/IP to overcome some of the limitations (no Internet Radio) in the Built-In devices.

The built-in Escient devices on the TSU9400/TSU9600 support connecting to Escient equipment via TCP/IP. To do this, Escient would have to be on the network.

Since this is your first day, will want to search this forum for +Escient. I think you will find lots of info. You are absolutely crazy if you want to talk RS-232 to the FP1. TCP is the ONLY way to go. If your customer insists on RS-232, then tell them to take a long walk off a short pier as they have more money than they have common sense.

Regarding your 2nd question.

Put your TSU9400 in network mode and communicate with the RFX9600 until your heart's content.
