I have a new setup for my bedroom.... I am putting all the equipment in the basement right below the bedroom, plasma is on the wall, I need to make my IR blaster cable longer by about 20ft longer. Anyone done this yet... I only need 1 blaster to go up for the plasma.

My Panasonic Pro plasma doesn't even have a power button on it either...

Could I just cut the wire and splice it with a longer run...?

Thanks

Yes, you can use CAT5/5E and probably get a 50 foot run easily. If you find that signal is too low, bump it up to "High Output" on extender and retest.

IR systems are rather trivial at the output point the following is genrally not an issue,

Cable runs in the 100 foot range using 22-24 gauge wire. Xantech system will handle thousand foot runs. Multiple emitters at the cable end all wired in series.

I classically run 100-150 feet with 4 emitters at the active end. As Lyndel said it all depends on how much power is being put down the wire. All emitters I know of have a little resistor in the case or somewhere along the line to avoid a short on the output side of the device putting out the signal. Sometimes the device also has a resistor. Lowering the value of these current limiting resistor increases the available signal at the end of the cable.
