Hi,

I am wondering if the Escient Fireball-PC software can be used with the Pronto TSU9400. [Link: escient.com]

They offer 2 versions.

So without the use of Escient hardware solutions. Just start the Fireball-PC server program on my pc, share some folders and the Pronto does the rest.

I have an RFX9400 too, not sure if it is needed for this type of use?

The Pronto manual doesn't provide much help. Also there is this Padone software (for the TSU9600), does this do the same?

Most definitely not.

The Fireball PC software only talks to an Escient. From what I can tell, it does not open up Port 251 which is what the normal Escient uses to surface the External Control Protocol.

In case you are wondering about my qualifications, please know that I am extremely (wife says TOO) familiar with the Escient control protocol. I implemented it on my on home-brew Media Server for Beta testing with the TSU9600 before I owned Escient Equipment. I now also use Fireball PC in my own setup to serve data to my DVDM unit.

RFX9X00 extender is not required to talk to an Escient. PadOne is used to communicate with Windows MediaCenter edition. There are quite a few posts in this forum regarding PadOne. I suggest searching and reading up based on User Experience with this software.

You could use Barry's slimserver....

But if you do buy an Escient, I have a new Escient Activity for integration into your current TSU9600 XCF. It supports Music, Playlists, Movies, and Radio coming soon. This activity will not be free though.

Well my next project is building an HTPC, so I am not very interested in buying an $2K Escient piece of hardware for playing music...

What I need is a software based server application for Windows which uses 2way comminucation with the Pronto 9400. I would like to control my music with the Pronto. I hope it will work a bit like an iPod. When I add an Escient / Imerge / Windows MCE panel in Prontoedit it looks like it works this way. Browsing through my music collection is the most important thing. Including showing whats playing etc.
Using the Pronto for watching movies is much easier. 2-way communication with the Pronto is not needed for me and many HTPC cases come with remote controls which can be leaned into the Pronto. But if it can be done with Padone or Slimserver its even better ofcoarse :-)

I understand Padone is a software-only solution, I read is available for the TSU9600, but I read also it is not specific for the 9600. I asked the peolpe from HD-tech for information about a 9400 version.
Slimserver is another software only solution? I will search in this forum for more info.

Do I understand good that Padone and Slimserver are using these Windows MCE panels?

I am reading quite alot last days, including the whole Prontoedit manual. So sorry if I didn't searched the forum good enough.

Maybe a few "sticky" threads would be nice to have with basic answers about these applications. The manual doesnt provide enough information.

Dear Lyndel,
actually I have a dvdm 300 connected with Tsu9600 via Rs232, with 3 dvd changer of 400dvd. I am looking to integrate it via ip on the Tsu 9600, I would like to tranfer cover and dvd info to the Tsu9600, but until now without sucess. I stop two month ago this activitty because I want to invest in the new Vision line. I am interested to talk with someone that want to integrate better Escient with the Tsu 9600 ( I don't like the Philips page on the edit system). I saw that you are working on it. Can you explain me better what you are doing?
Ciao,
Riccardo

I'm interfacing using TCP/IP and the Escient control protocol. IMO, your choice to use RS-232 up front was a very BAD decision. You should have started with TCP/IP.

You will not get Jacket pictures unless you can "fetch" dynamic images from Escient using HTTP protocol. With current TSU9600 firmware, you cannot do this. However, there will be more to come in the way of supporting this from Philips, hopefully soon...

Lyndel, I am interested in your Activity for Escient. How much is it, and is there a way to see some of the screen shots of the device?

The slimserver solution is a very attractive one. The 9400 version of the Pronto activity, which is somewhat iPod like, will be out with the next Philips firmware release.

you don't need to spend 2K on escient to get started in "serving" music. Escient has numerous choices for way less than 2K
