Hi,

I have a large music collection and have noticed a few problems;

1. In the Escient Transport Screen you can only browse to 9999 items. I have over 17,000 tracks so cannot list by song name.

2. Is there anyway to add an extra screen so that the digits are available? I would like to be able to use the abd, def ... functions to go directly to the artists/songs that begin with that letter. I guess I could set up playlists to do this, but it would be great if I could do this on the fly as then I would not need to mess around with the playlists every time I add new music. Using the Escient Web interface or TV screens is a total drag when you have a large music collection.

3. This may be an issue with the Escient, but is there a way to add a function for 'Add to playing now'? I use this function a lot to queue music as I am listening (on my MCE PC). I haven't yet found how to do this directly on the Escient, so perhaps it's not available. I would also like to edit the playing now list as well - don't want much do I ;-)

Anyone have any ideas?

The screens provided as standard are not quite there - I was hoping that they may be more 'Sonos' like in their operation. Anyone know if new screens are being developed?

I have an Escient Fireball SE 160i by the way.

Regards

1. I had 17437 songs when I tested my media player against the TSU9600 (I have an escient emulation I wrote). This is a limitation of the curent implementaion. I will forward a link to this post to the Pronto Team as well but I make no promises when/if it might be supported.

2. You could add a 2nd device and have one of the Escient Hard Buttons jump to a page in that device. There is no way to add a page to the existing device.

3. My thoughts are that you would use Playlists functionality on the Escient. I own a DVDM-100 and there's no "Record" button to add to a playlist in the Escient device. This issue was also raised later in the 9600 Beta test. I don't know of a way to do this at this time.

Thx Lyndel,

In the meantime I will use a hard button to jump to a screen that has a set of Transport screens for the Escient remote. I'll just have to use the TV screen to view and select music until there's an update.

Shame really, but it looks as if this remote is going to get a lot more support than the RC9800i so I am pretty confident something will be around in the future.

Regards

The whole song thing was brought up late in the beta as I wrote a java program to emulate an escient and ran into this issue.

Brian,
As for the question number 3 above, there is not currently a way to do what I think you are asking for but there will be soon. Escient showed a feature called Jukebox at CEDIA that allows you to queue selections for sequenced playback while playing other music. It allows you to make selections to be played later in the order selected (or random if desired) like a jukebox would. This function will be included in an update for current product that should be released in early 2007 (according to Escient). It is already included in the new AVX and MX series product. Currently they only support a favorites playlist which you can add a title to by simply pressing the favorites button while the title is being played.

Brian,

Have you had any problems with the remote becoming sluggish when you have 9999 songs? In my case, I found that a jump from the Home Page into the Browser Page of the Escient device took around 10-15 seconds when 9999 songs were loaded. Did you experience this same issue?

Lyndel,

Yes indeed - things do start to slow down once you have the full 9999 loaded. I have also had it freeze a couple of times requiring me to hard reset the remote.

I have also noticed that any CD ripped onto the Escient in WAV format (using the Escient internal ripper) does not show in the Song or Artist view on the remote - you can only find them if you browse through the genres on the remote. They show up as expected when you use the Escient's browser so it is a problem related to how the transport screen is codes as far as I can tell.

Brian.

The issue with WAV files likely has to do with the list numbers (see Escient Protocol doc) requested by the TSU9600.

I've sent the team an email noting the issue with WAV files. Maybe they can reproduce to determine if this is an Escient issue or somehow related to the List Numbers mentioned above and can be addressed on the TSU9600.
