I need help from infrared code experts who can decipher infrared codes (Barry, John Fine, Lyndel, etc. - help!).

I've ported my TSU7500 PCF to a TSU9400 XCF. I can't get my Anthem Statement D2's cursor keys to work properly with the TUS9400 (the Anthem Statement line of preprocessors use the same cursor key commands).

I've tried the following:

1. The cursor keys work properly with my TSU7500. However, the same commands, when ported to the TSU9400 don't do anything (no response from my Anthem). Playing with duration did not help.

2. I downloaded the CCF from Anthem's web site (http://www.anthemav.com) - same problem as #1 above - i.e. no response.

3. I taught the TSU9400 the codes using the Anthem remote. The cursor keys work, but holding down the cursor keys don't repeat (resend) the commands. I have to keep pressing the key instead of just holding it down.

4. I re-taught the TSU9400 the codes using the Anthem remote. The cursor keys repeat (resend) the commands when I hold down the button. However, if I just press a button once, it acts as if I pressed the button 3 times.

Anyway, I've tried re-teaching the TSU9400 many many times, and I get either problem #3 or #4 above. I also tried using the Pronto editor's factory database (which contains Anthem codes), and the factory database's cursor keys did not work either.

The patterns look fine to me in the following sense

1) They are clean, no extraneous junk
2) They are all repeatable, in that there are "Repeat bursts" and no "one Time Bursts"
3) Each burst sequence consists of three repetitions of the pattern, all identical with a fixed dead time between patterns, and a much longer dead time after the third pattern instance
4) I have no idea if they are the correct patterns as I do not have any protocol information for that mnufacturer or device (Anthiem)
5) The remote clock is something slightly above 40KHZ

Thanks. But the problem with these codes are that if I tap on a button (very quickly when I don't want the button to repeat), the button acts as if I pressed on it 3 times instead of just once. Does that explain why, when I just tap a button, the cursor moves 3 times intead of just once? If so, how can the hex be changed so that one tap equals one cursor movement (instead of 3), while longer button presses will result in the cursor moving many times.

yes what is happening is exactly what I would expect.

You tap it quickly, but there is no "One Time pattern" so it will execute the repeat pattern which sends the IR command three times.

Try the following and let me know if it works. You should be able to figure out what I did and modify the other codes to match. You might want to pull my original paper on IR hex coding for the Pronto. It is in the files section on this site. It explains how to decode and understand Pronto hex patterns for IR codes.

Joe, thanks! The cursor keys work great! I'm curious how you found working codes. I tried the codes from Anthem's web site, I tried the codes from my TSU7500, and I tried learning from the Anthem OEM remote many times. Anyway, your cursor key codes work great.

The select key works better too. If the Anthem is in Tuner mode, holding down the Select key for 2 to 3 seconds allows one to enter an FM or AM channel directly. My version didn't do this, but the version you have above does it correctly (I created a Direct key that was a copy of the Select key with a duration of 3 seconds to simulate holding the Select key down). I actually never listen to AM or FM with my D2, but it's nice having the complete codes in my setup.

Barry - I actually downloaded your document a while back, and it has been in my "to read" queue for a while. Now that I'm in the process of transitioning from my TSU7500 to my TSU9400, that document may come in handy. I thought porting my TSU7500 PCF to a TSU9400 XCF would be fairly straightforward, but I'm finding that a number of codes in various devices that worked great with my TSU3000/7000/7500 don't work properly with the TSU9400. This includes the Anthem D2, TiVo codes, projector codes and possibly other devices that I haven't tested yet. This reminds me of the pain when going from a TS1000 to the TSU3000 a number of years back (hopefully it won't be as painful). Adding/changing duration oftentimes doesn't help, and I have to use the OEM remotes to teach the codes to the TSU9400. Time to get a fresh set of batteries for the OEM remotes...

That's great!!! I'm glad I could help... I just learned the codes in direclty from the remote. As you know it can sometimes be tricking getting them in perfectly. However; I have found the 9600 does a great job of code capture (Better than any other previous Pronto).

Greetings; stubmed on this thread quite by accident and became curious: what is the source of your references for "ciphering" codes from remote controls? Migrating to the TSU9400 from the TSU3000 is the first time I've seen actual programming codes associated with the IR. I'd be interested to know how you go about interpreting it ... is a object programming script or code?

Hmmm... I wonder if the TSU9400 learns differently than the TSU9600. Either that, or the "technique/environment" that I happened to be using (distance from OEM remote during learning, surface of table, closeness to LCD monitor, etc.) may have affected my teaching from the OEM remote. The codes are the representation of the IR codes. For more information, see Barry's document which he mentioned earlier.

As suggested by randman, read my original document and you will gain insight.

I have proprieatary tools that I developed that are heuristic in nature, as opposed to algorithmic. They compare IR patterns in several formats and deduce timings, attempt to ascertain a "1" from a "0" and match a known protocol to the pattern. because of their heuristic nature I have never released them as they require a user with an intimate knowledge of IR patterns and protocols to assist in guiding the heuristic.
