On of the nice things about using RF with the pronto is being able to "hard-wire" components directly to the extender using a mono cable.

I have had good luck with my Denon AVR and DVD.

The Pioneer CD Changer and LD players do NOT work - in fact lose even IR if they are plugged in.

My Pansat Satellite receiver has a very tempting plug, and can be used with the (no longer available) Pansat RF extender. However, the plus in this case is a stereo plug as the Receiver supplies voltage to the adapter. I won't even THINK about trying that.

Any other components that you use that will (usually) work with a direct hookup?

The Pioneer equipment may work -- sort of. Looking at the docs it seems as tho you can string Pioneer components together and then just supply IR to the first in the chain, The signal will be relayed down the line to connected equipment. At least a way to cut down on the need for IR flashers.

Look at the xantech line of IR interface units. They will pronbably do what you want (Interface the extender directly to an interface unit and the interface unit to a component. At the IR port the key should be "IR" not "Philips"
