Could anyone out there help me to get me started. The 114 page manual tells you what to do but not how to (step by step). I am not a progammer by any means, so the terms used in the manual is all chinese to me. Is there a "manual for dummies" available? So far I can operate my old Pioneer dvd player. I need codes for my equipment (the factory database is not up to date). (1) Anthem AVM30, (2) Panasonic Blu-Ray BDM BD30, (3) Toshiba HD DVD HD-A20, (4) DVDO ISCAN VP50PRO, (5) Epson Powerlite Pro Cinema 1080 projector.
Thanks in advance

lucky2,

You can start by making your device screens and operating under the assumption that at some point you'll find the codes in a database or online or learn the codes from the native remotes. The user interactions will be the same in any case.

Rather than directly inserting the codes into each button, establish a hidden page for each device. I call mine "Codes". On the ugly looking code page (it is just a matrix of small square buttons), I have a button for each remote command that I intend to use. From your control screens, link to the corresponding button on the control page -- especially do this in any macros that you create.

When you find or learn the IR commands, insert them into the code page buttons. Later, if you find a better IR command or change the device model, all or most of any changes will be limited to the code page -- you don't need to track down every use of that IR command.

This technique will yield big dividends later if you decide to add an RF range extender.

Lucky,

Check out the Ultimate Pronto Guide. I just downloaded and it is the "Dummie" guide you are looking for. I also replied to you at AVS forums.

You can find the guide in the ProntoNG forum. There is a cost to download, but it is worth it in my opinion, especially for newbies.

Thanks for the link, but website does not mentionned that is for tsu9600.

They mentionned it is for:

Written for Philips Pronto TSU3000/3500, TSU7000/7500, RU950, RU980, Marantz RC5400 & RC9500.

I dont mind spending 25$ if it is going to help me, can someone confirm that it is also for the TSU9600 also.

Sorry if I am a pest but I need to know

Thanks for all of your support

Lucky,

I downloaded today. You are right, it is listed for the NG, not the 9400 or 9600. But after spending most of the day using the guide, it appears as though the software for the devices are almost identical. There are some minor differences, but I figured it out without much problem. I think the new software is even easier than what appears in the NG guide.

I will tell you this, if you want a moderate, simple set up, it shouldn't be overly difficult to accomplish. If you want an elaborate really cool looking set up, it may take a good while. I don't really mind spending some time; I enjoy stuff like this. The guide says it can take up to 200 hours of work to make a sophisticated remote setup. If you aren't computer literate at all, this may be an impossible task. I am pretty good at picking things up, so I'm giving it a shot.

For $25 I found the guide to be very helpful. It's worth a shot. Your only other option is to spend hundreds having someone else program it for you.

You will also want to read the Classic Pronto and the Pronto NG FAQs. Much of what is there also applies to your 9600.

Thanks for the posts about the Ultimate Pronto Guide. A large portion of the Guide will apply to the TSU9400 and TSU9600. It is still the only resource out there to help new owners who wish to try programming.

Happy New Year!

I have recently purchased a Phillips TSU9600 and am wanting to connect my components up along with my Lutron RadioRA lighting. After doing considerable reading, I am now confused. In order for my remote to operate the lighting do I need the RFX-9600, RA-RS232 and a repeater? I have not been able to find one site that states exactly what you need. Also when I tried to program my TSU-9600 I could not find but one component on the Phillips site. I have the following components that I want to control with my TSU-9600; Marantz SR8001, Marantz DV9600, Marantz VC6001, Pioneer BDP-HD1, Toshiba HDA3 and the Lutron RadioRA lighting. I do have professional installers lined up, but need to have all the equipment ready for them as they charge a flat rate, then start charging by the hour after that. Please help.
Thanks,
Sheri

You will need RS-232 capability for the Lutron system. This means the RFX9600. I think there's someone selling these on Ebay for around $480USD.
